A DL 744 has been on the ground in TPA since yesterday morning. Does anyone know why and perhaps when it will be departing. It is a rare sight in TPA and I would love to watch it gracefully take to the skies if possible.

Don't know who it is exactly chartering, but I imagine it's there for the Outback Bowl. It was mentioned in the thread about the NCAA Bowl Charters.

Off topic slightly but I saw a Delta 747 depart here (Al Udeid Airbase, Qatar) a couple nights ago. Obviously a rotator charter.

Three years ago when Oregon and Auburn where in the Fiesta Bowl that was charter central for DL. Two A330s and a 744. World had a MD-11 in PHX as well as United chartering ASU and Oregon this year. Plus there was an A330 parked over the weekend down by west cargo for the rose bowl.

Quoting BigSaabowski (Reply 7): It is performing a TPA-DTW charter for Michigan.
well there is a discussion about this in a couple other threads - one is NCAA charters.
Michigan football team came down Saturday before Christmas on an A330, the band/cheerleaders came down a few days back on an A330 I believe Sat afternoon.
The 747 ferried in empty New Years Eve from BWI after operating as a troop charter Rammstein - BWI. It sat at TPA for 2 days - took combined Michigan band and football team back today to DTW, saw it land at DTW around 12:30pm

Quoting 71Zulu (Reply 12): Kind of sad they had nothing else for it to do but I guess charters are slow at Christmas.
Agree, I was surprised that it was just sitting at the west end of the airport for the whole time that Michigan State was here for the Buffalo Wild Wing Bowl.

Also one came into SEA today as a 9000 flight number from ANC. Any Delta employees able to shed light on why it came into here?

Flew from TPA-PHL on Tuesday afternoon (US 1884) and saw the DL 744 sitting at the hard stand. Obviously in town for the Outback Bowl but still very cool to see a 744 in TPA.
