Just noticed a 787 charter news: Thomson Airways will operate 1x weekly 787 non stop service HEL-MBA next winter, 22 Dec 2013 - 30 Mar 2014. This winter the route is served by Thomson 767, great to get their good looking 787 in HEL.

I think you mean it will be TUIfly Nordic who will fly the route once they get their 787's. Thomson operate the long haul routes currently as no they have no aircraft in their fleet to operate the routes. All 787 are being delivered to Thomson but will then be leased to other parts of the business ie Nordic, Arkefly..
The article says TUI Travel ordered 13 787's and Thomson gets 8 of them. I suppouse the cabins of TUI Travel 787's will be all identical? The cabin comfort looks good, especially 33-34" seat pitch in Dreamclass (Eco).

Interesting - in winter Thomson Airways have a large Scandinavian long-haul programme in support of TUIfy Nordic (but as said previously these are Thomson-operated using TOM flight numbers) but a single weekly 787 out of Helsinki seems odd, and expensive, if the aircraft has to position from/to the UK before/after the flight. Currently the 2-3 "Scandinavia-based" 767s operate there until needed to be rotated for maintenance, so I would expect that further 787 flights in Scandinavia will be announced for winter 2013/14.
This winter for the first time the ex-First Choice Airways aircraft are being used on the Scandinavia flights.
With the re-introduction of UK-Phuket flights in 2013/14, this gives the opportunity to swap aircraft for maintenance between Nordic and UK based aircraft for Thomson Airways in Phuket if aircraft from both regions are scheduled to be on the ground at the same time. I don't know if that is the case - but would certainly make sense, especially given the popularity of Thailand from Scandinavia.
I think in the future with a common configuration, cross utilisation between the various TUI 787 operators will be extensive, as even now with the 767-300 fleet this is problematic; while the core of the fleet is ex-Britania aircraft, each operator has their own second-hand non-standard variants; and even in the UK the major part of the long haul fleet is made up of ex-First Choice aircraft!
One thing that has always stuck me as odd was the complete lack of any aircraft being allocated to Germany... Maybe things will change in the future if options for the 787 are taken up. I understand that TUIfly are no longer in the long-haul market but given the pressure from LCCs in Europe this would seem to be a reasonable method of reducing exposure to this, especially given the cost benefits of a Europe-wide order and downroute support network from the other carriers. Time will tell...

Yes probably further 787 flights in Nordics coming next winter. Thailand from HEL would suit me well but probably TUI will send Thomson 767 to Phuket and Krabi like they do this season.
