I was on AC 453 from YOW - YYZ when the E190 shook and passengers on the right side of the plane noticed that a baggage tug cart had skidded out and hit a ramp hand into the engine nacelle. The crew was alerted and asked if a doctor was on board, within minutes the airport emergency crews were on scene. After ~40 minutes the rampie was taken away by an ambulance and after an hour we were deplaned. The plane is being left untouched for an Ontario Labour Board investigation.

The ramp is a loud, busy and dangerous place, especially in very cold temperatures. I sincerely hope this rampie makes a quick, and complete recovery, and that he is supported by his company and union while he is out of comission.
Every time I travel I see AC rampies taking stupid liberties, and I saw the same thing while I worked for them. There are a number of ways I could see this particular accident having gone down, and all of them involve the loss of a safety focus at a certain point. To all my friends on the ramp, please keep the safety focus, and do not keep a closed mouth if you see someone else's slipping.

That sounds like it could take a long time. Is the aircraft just sitting at the gate still? I'm flying into YOW on Monday, so I will keep an eye out (although there are normally plenty of E190s around).
Did they simply find a replacement aircraft, or was your flight cancelled?

They deplaned us all and rebooked everyone on other flights. I was heading to YVR via YYZ so I got rebooked on the direct YOW - YVR flight later that day. When I went back to the airport about 3 hours later the plane wasn't at the gate anymore. They said that maintenance had to check the aircraft from damage after the cart hit it so it was probably towed away to be inspected.

Whoa, weird. I was working the ramp on Friday and never saw any emergency vehicles around nor did I hear anything about the incident. Do you remember what gate this was at? I'm well comfortable out there at this point, but during winter conditions the ramp can be pure chaos.
