The New Doha International Airport, will recieve its first passengers April 1. It has been renamed to Hamad International Airport, after His Highness the Amir of Qatar.
Please note that only those airlines that do NOT require lounge access will be the first to use it; which means Low Cost Carriers and others. National carrier Qatar Airways will not use it by April; but will wait until all the lounges are fitted.
A bit of a background:
The German-UAE Contractor who was doing the lounges at the new DOH got fired, and replaced with another--which brings in a new series of delays. A replacement Italian Contractor is working on the lounges and will finish gradually from June to September. So, QR will move there perhaps in September.
Clearly the airport below is almost complete (in fact its 99% complete) and looks indeed one of the world's best!
On www.skyscrapercity.com, the worlds largest architecture and construction internet forum there is a thread in the internation section about the construction of this airport. And many other airports in different threads.

Thanks for the pics. It is quite nice to see such a sober and elegant interior (at least from the pictures), instead of some bling-bling shinny structure with palms all around like other major regional airports .
Well I can only ban people; not unban them. What was your username? PM me.
Quoting aarbee (Reply 18): Seems NDIA for QR is targeted for December 2013.
Perhaps earlier in September.
I heard 12 to 13 airlines will shift to NDIA by April; I assume there will be a temporary lounge for those non-QR O&D carriers. That will free up to 20% of the current airport capacity for QR 2013 expansion. QR can also take over Terminal B at this present airport to expand a bit the check-in areas.
Qatar's Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) has announced the first phase of the country's new Hamad International Airport is to be officially opened on April 1, Arabian Aerospace has reported. The first phase of the $15.5bn project involves 12 international passenger airlines becoming the launch carriers of the new facility, including low-cost airlines.
So, which airlines will be the launch customers for this airport?
BTW. how far is this airport from the old DOHA Airport located?
: it will be low cost and non affiliated airlines. FlyDubai Air Arabia Bahrain Air MEA PIA ect... its 2 km to the east. You can see it,from the current
