Due to my facintation with runway lengths and the size of aircraft landing on them I was wondering what the longest runway at your home airport is.

For all those who live near airports with runways less then 6000' I would like to know what was the largest aircraft you saw was.

Mine :
longest rwy 6000', largest aircraft:757-200.

CYKA,

Ah but those 757s are mighty powerful craft though  Smile(just like the 727s they sorta were designed to replace)

But yes 6000 is pretty compact, even for those.
I don't know what the heck it's like being around smaller 'n quieter airports a lot (apart from just smaller and quieter, of course). YUL's had runways to handle the biggest craft around, basically since it's been around (I think 24R started off at around 9000' or so, and it wasn't a big deal at all, bringing it up to current 11000'. Don't even know when they did that either, I guess maybe ten or fifteen years or so now.)

Hello,

Not that I think this is of any interest to anyone but anyway:

Kerry (EIKY/KIR): 2000 metres (It is the only runway in operation) which I believe is pretty long for an airport that gets 1 B737-200 a day plus a few ATRs. (ah things used to be different not so long ago when Aer Lingus flew here)

I think I'm right in saying that 27R at LHR, my local, is the longest civilian runway in the UK. I was under the impression the runway at Fairford might be longer?

IAH: 12,001 x 150 ft. - the biggest a/c are 747-400's, or maybe the An-124.

HOU: 7,602 x 150 ft. - I think that the biggest are probably MD-80's, I don't think that HOU gets 727's or 757's and we definately don't get anything bigger than that.

EFD: 9,001 x 150 ft. - as far as airlines, just the CO ATR42's are the biggest. Otherwise, there are a bunch of NASA planes and military planes coming through daily.

I meant to add, about YUL, the folks watching in the small spotting room upstairs, for their friends or relatives' planes leave and take off on 24R where most of the big internationals leave, generally the 744s and 767/777s lift off from what seems to be about the 7000' -8000' foot part along the runway. While the 340s take sorta another several hundred feet more than that.
