Air Asia X will return to the Middle East with service to Jeddah Saudi Arabia

Carrier plans 3x weekly between KUL and JED increasing to 4x in May using 377-seat A330-300 aircraft.

Carrier expects to carry about 50,000 folks on the route in the first year.

How was Tehran doing before the financial crisis due to sanctions?

I think Tehran was good in concept but bad in practice with the timing coming as the economic and political conditions significantly eroded the traffic volume.
Even IR reduced its long standing KUL service frequencies this winter.

I think this will be good for religious pilgrims heading to Saudi Arabia as well as overseas workers returning to SE Asia

Also, Malaysia is a popular holiday destination among Saudis in SE Asia.

They've talked about it for a long time. I'm glad it's finally happening.

Is this a direct response of Cebu Pacific announcing services to DXB...?

doubt so as they just recently pulled out of AUH (Abu dhabi)
One thing that i cannot understand with the LCCs...why do they all clamor for DXB which is so crowded by itself...

Why not SHJ (Sharjah) which is a mere 16 kms from dubai? literally sharjah and dubai are under dubai radar and infact we have the same departure and arrival names...(talking about the IFR charts)

air asia and air asia X use SHJ instead of DXB as the refuelling airport for obvious reason for the delivery flts from Toulouse to KUL.

I still wish air asia X operated to the UAE ...but unfortunately they dont provide connections to air asia from KUL

I think Cebu Pacific and Air Asia X basically focus on different market. Air Asia runs an out-dated but efficient hub in KUL LCCT while Cebu Pacific doesn't have such an extended network in SE Asia. Cebu Pacific can't grasp a lot of passengers from Air Asia X.
