Well, speculating from the picture in the local news report

http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/2...al-Airport-Official-187377711.html

It appears that an AR A340 might have clipped an AF 77W with its winglet while it taxiied by. AR 1304 from EZE by the timing.

The AR A340 clipped the AF B77W while taxing to the gate.

Authorities Thursday night were at Miami International Airport investigating a collision between two large commercial airlines near the gates.
No one was injured in the collision, but the planes sustained damage — one on its wingtip, the other to its tail section, said MIA spokesman Marc Henderson.
“Neither plane will be flying tonight,” Henderson said.
The accident occurred at around 5:45 p.m. as one plane, an Aerolineas Argentinas Airbus was arriving at MIA with 240 passengers onboard and apparently struck an Air France 777-300 plane still at the gate, readying to fly to Paris with some 350 passengers onboard.

Based on the picture it looks like the AR aircraft is lined up perfectly with the centre line of the taxiway. That being the case - seems strange that this could have happened. Unless the AR took a corner too early late etc,

I'm surprised it doesn't happen more...it was apparently dark and the planes have huge wingspans.

Sure, but there is also a tug attached to the AR plane suggesting that it was already moved. No sure if that picture really says anything. I am sure the gate cams will tell the story.

Our local news had this as the headline news this morning, the way they talked about it you would have thought the planes had collided on the runway. What was also funny was it the the "headliner story" but didn't actually run the story until the end of the news broadcast. I hate when they do that.

There has to be carnage and a heavy toll to get those "film at Eleven" clips to the top of the broadcast. Otherwise the media loses interest. (Although they do waste a lot of time on whatever a Kardashian is.)

I saw an AR A340 close to the cell waiting area today. Didn't notice anything about it. If I had known about this I would have looked closer.

It was still there as of tonight (January 18th).

Air France rebooked the passengers on their flight onto just about every other airline from MIA. I helped a family today and realized that they were being featured on Airport 24/7: Miami. Unfortunately, the company under whose contract I work has prohibited its employees and vendors from appearing on the show, so the cameras didn't follow into my part of the terminal.

Rumor has it that a wing walker is going to be looking for a new job soon...

Yah but...they did get you to watch the entire show and be subjected to all their advertising, so they 'won'.

The only defence is to pick a different news source for you local news I think - Although it is sometimes hard to get good local news without the drama. Of course, for aviation breaking news I use A.Net and maybe a couple other sources to remain unnamed, and then selective web viewing of the mass media stories afterwards to see how it was reported afterwards - saves a lot of time, especially if the 28 minutes is local news for places or un-reality people I am not worried about.
(Apologies to all those people in those places - I mean no disrespect to you or your town of course, just not enough hours in a year. No apologies to the un-reality 'stars')

Wide Alley between concourses H and J, 3 taxi lines: 14 western, center and east. Heavy a/c must use center one, W & E for double side traffic of smallers planes. AF B777W parqued at H-6, AR A340 was taxing into the alley and used wrong 14W. No wing walkers needed for parqued AF nor for taxing by the line AR

So it's the AR pilot who used the wrong line and no wing walker was involved?

It's a SkyTeam initiation rite...first the AF A380 spins the Delta Connection (Comair) CR7 around at JFK after hitting its tail, and now it's new member AR's turn to give AF a taste of their own medicine!
