easyJet has confirmed that flight EZY7279 from Liverpool to Geneva was overweight "due to an exceptionally high proportion of male passengers and more hold luggage than usual." 300kg over and a request was made for four volunteers to off-load. According to one version of events no-one wanted to get off until passengers had a whip-round and collected several hundred pounds to "compensate" those who would leave. This was in addition to the compensation being offered by easyJet - £100 in compensation and alternative flights.

easyJet in a statement said that four passengers had come forward and that as far as they can tell "no other arrangements between passengers were made." Did it happen or is the passenger quoted in the press simply making it up?

If it is true, then it is ridiculous that this can even happen.

Keep calm and up your game!

Find it very hard to believe that there was a "whip-round".

There are set procedures that are followed for pax offload for (in)voluntary offloads.

In 8 years happened to me 3 times, on 2 occasions had volunteers galore (£100 and next available flight offered, including hotac for the night) and on the last occasion it was involuntary which resulted in £££ payment (certainly more then voluntary £100 payment).
