While there were no injuries and the aircraft landed safely, the aircraft received damage (four through holes of various sizes in the fuselage skin) to its tail. This seems to be a close call...

Is this the same incident that had a video from the inside of the aircraft shown on CNN tonight? It sounds like it was, yet CNN said the aircraft was over Turkey. I'd make a media joke, but it's CNN.

For the loc antenna, yes. All that hardware in the clearway is designed to break away rather than pose serious hazard to the aircraft.

If I understand the picture correctly - then there was only that much room left before breakaway parts would be useless precaution:
