Does US Have Any Plans For The HP Brand?

I've gotten to wondering- what does US plan on doing with the HP brand? They own the name ( & everything else associated) but are not using it, which ( if my understanding is correct) means that the name will eventually become public domain due to inactivity. They already have renamed two of their regional carriers to preserve ownership of their other inactive brands (PSA & Piedmont)....... so is there any chance that they will do the same with America West? ( Or revive it in some other way?  )

Cheers,

PCJ

It would be amusing to see an E-170 being operated by "America West" wouldn't it?

I do believe they have so many years before the trademark expires.

US kept Allegheny, PSA, and Piedmont as regionals to keep the trademarks alive, but they have since folded Allegheny into Piedmont, rendering that name inactive as well.

They will probably just let the America West name pass ... just as Delta will do with Northwest.

I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.

US still has HP and AL logo jets. They should count as exercising their trademarks.

All of US Airways aircraft have a sticker with the logos of US and HP by the doorway.

The trademark is safe since the corporate name is America West.

What is it with all the "is there a possibilty airline X will.." threads? The answer it'll is possible.

And what is your cite for that interesting piece of information?

Yeah that's definitely not true.

This is not true. A trademark (unlike a copyright or a patent) expires when you stop using the mark. That's probably the reason that the America West logo appears on every US Airways plane.

Which is all subject to factors too, such as selling merchandise (like models, t-shirts, etc) apparently does not count towards "using the marks"
