Is Pinnacle Closing MEM Crew Base?

Pinnacle's web page does not have anything about base closing but, word around town says Pinnacle is closing both the pilot base and the flight attendant base at MEM April 1. With the already announced closing of the ATL base in May, that would leave bases at MSP, DTW and JFK.

Guess this means either EV, S5, or even mainline on FWA-ATL from now on. 9E used to ferry CR2s from ATL to FWA for MX, which reminds me...

... if 9E is planning on keeping the FWA MX base open, planes will have to be flown in from DTW and MSP. MSP is a good route for a 9E CR9, and I expect it to get upgraded whether the FWA MX base stays or not, but DTW is a mixed bag. It's a short flight for a CR9, yet then again, UA/S5 runs E170s on SBN-ORD which is shorter than FWA-DTW.

Yes it is closing, as is ATL.

not at all.
Nothing would stop trip building for ATL-FWA-ATL turns

Could do DTW-FWA-ATL-FWA-DTW fairly easy (or MSP)

yep.

I checked delta.com, and it looks like there will still be one 9E CR2 flight from FWA-ATL and back from May onward, not surprisingly timed for an RON at FWA for MX. The other two departures will be EV CR2s. I suspect that the lone 9E departure will come in from somewhere else to ATL before heading to FWA for MX.

FWA-DTW goes all-9E with the ATL base closure (DTW was a mix of 9E and EV) and FWA-MSP remains 9E, as always. So 9E FWA MX will still have plenty of planes to work on.

MEM MX base is closing. MEM 200 base is closing. ATL 900 base is closing. CVG is new MX base, MX in MEM can bid for CVG. 2900s are gone by end of month with the other 14 out by August.

Simply the Best!

Are they back in the old XJ hangar at CVG?

I think 9E is using a former OH hangar this time.

9E has already occupied the OH hangar at CVG. The FWA base (for now) is still going to be viable and stay around.

Good to hear. As I have said before, the Ivy Tech A&P school flow-through program at 9E FWA MX is something that 9E really, really likes.

9E may really, really like them, but 9E is essentially a zombie at this time.

I wonder if this is a convenient way for DL to dehub MEM on April 1st?

Between the current thread and the below referenced thread, it doesn't appear that there will be much left of Pinnacle to grace MEM, or even to dehub :

It's Official: Pinnacle Moving Headquarters To MSP (by bluewhale18210 Jan 24 2013 in Civil Aviation)

Anyway in my mind, there isn't much to imagine.... sorry...!

Plenty to love at FWA from my perspective: 15 minutes from the city center, quick and cheap parking, free Wi-Fi (I can't believe that some airports still charge for Wi-Fi), very good restaurant facilities by small airport standards, and free cookies once you step off the plane.

No, as much of the MEM flying is already not flown by 9E anymore. Much of MEM is flown by EV / Expressjet these days, with some CHQ ERJs.

The two are not necessarily related.

Story on Memphis TV tonight re: Pinnacle handling of Memphis based flight attendants....

See link following:

http://www.wmctv.com/story/20953038/...attendant-shares-company-ultimatum

I'm not sure how Crew base closings/transfers and so on are handled, but the indications are that the Pinnacle Flight Attendants either choose one of three crew bases or voluntarily resign. Resignation will leave them without the ability to draw on unemployment benefits. Could be a tough choice for some of them.....!

I don't see what the big deal is. Yes the base is closing, and you may have to move or commute. Tons of crewmembers do it every day. I'm sure that it is all spelled out in their new contract. There's likely even a commuter policy as well, which gives them some protection as long as they follow the policy. But it really doesn't sound that different than anyone else who has been thru a corporate relocation.
