Minoan Air had announced some months ago that it intended to start flights from Oxford. At the time it was some continental destinations, such as MUC that were named.
However, Minoan have put on sale flights from Oxford to Edinburgh and Dublin. It looks like it will be double flights 3 days a week to start with from 4th March, with frequency increases from May.
Minoan operates Fokker 50s.

Here is the schedule: http://minoanair.com/files/Schedule.pdf

Minoan's web page: http://minoanair.com/en/Home

Attempted routes from Oxford in the past have not proved successful. Just earlier this month, flights to the Isle of Mann and Jersey stopped operating.
Let's see if Minoan have better luck on this venture.

Looking at their timetable I think the Minoan guys have made a slight mistake. They should have published two distinct periods:

- from 4 March - 09 May 2013
- from 10 May - 27 October 2013

It seems they start on March 4th, with just one aircraft...and continue from May 10th with 2x Fokker 50s.

Wish them success.

In addition they have not yet published what these two aircraft will do between the early morning rotation (return Oxford 10.15) and the evening departures (16.30 and 17.30) to DUB and EDI.

Any idea or pictures of the livery on the Fokker 50's?

Rest and recuperate at the edge of the Cotswolds and watch those trainers go round and round !

It would be nice for a new airline in the UK, but there is just no competing with those around already.

I don't think their website is going to generate much business from me: I can't get the booking page to show any origins or destinations , so how could I book if I wanted to?

Interesting point. Other destinations could follow to fit in that gap.

The website given in the first post works (the one after the schedule link)

After they missed their deadline and didn't respond to questions on their Facebook page, I was skeptical this was ever going to happen. Hopefully it will last longer than the last attempt, I never got the chance to fly on that one (mind you, not many people did, it disappeared so quickly).

The OXF-EDI-OXF timings and prices look to work for me, so I will probably give it a go.

Facebook page

Another attempt to link OXF-EDI. What is the fascination with this route? There was the famously flawed Varcity Express, then someone else (?) had a stab at it and now Minoan Air.

I come from a marketing background and I have to say that they need to get on their game. The Facebook page profile picture is of a paint peeling F50 and their tone of voice is aggressive in responses to posts.

Their website looks like a 12 year old built it. Very unprofessional. It would cost about £3k to make that site professional. Not a big cost in the grand scheme of setting up an airline.

Afraid I share your scepticism. I wonder if Martin Halstead has anything to do with this!?

It's actually one of the largest domestic markets in the UK with no service. Edinburgh and Oxford are two of the biggest UK tourist destinations and there are strong business links between the two regions. Minoan are the first to give it a shot after Varsity Express, the issue isn't the route's viability but the confidence of consumers in booking on yet another 'new' carrier starting up on this route - hence why OXF originally stated that they would only be looking for established carriers in the future. Minoan though had other ideas...

Well for someone based in Reading who heads up to EDI regularly and is tired of all the taxes you need to pay out of LHR I hope they can make a success of it. £51 each way gets my vote......question is, will it get others!

Absolutely - and as clearly stated on under OXF-EDI on OXF's page from The Route Shop also with desired routes, justifications, details of catchment area, operational characteristics, etc.: http://www.therouteshop.com/london-oxford-airport/

Regarding OXF-EDI, OXF's analysis has determined 60,000 passengers annually within a 30-minute catchment. Of course, these passengers may well travel overland or from LHR, LTN, or BHX - hence the need to really emphasise, in my opinion anyway, convenience, lack of need to be at the airport a while before (what's the minimum check-in time?), relaxation, simplicity, etc. - but also very cheap car parking. 'Spend more time in bed', relax, enjoy - that kind of thing. And, of course, its product and lack of fees - 'a breath of fresh air', 'we care', and 'we're here for you' kind of approaches. 'Fly local, fly better' type thing.

Sadly Minoan's booking system doesn't seem to work on the laptop I'm presently using or my mobile. It has only worked on my household's laptop - despite using the same browsers. This hardly inspires confidence!
