Very cool, Wonderful to see HA back at LNY & MKK. Any thoughts on if Ohana would be looking to further destinations in the Islands, like JHM? I can remember taking HA to MKK or LNY on various SD-330's, Dash-7's or DC-9's in the past.

I'm so glad lots of thought went into this branding! Slapping "Hawaiian Express" along side Pualani would have been such a cop out and a signal HA isn't all that committed to the brand. What they've come up with is stunning and genuinely Hawaiian. Well done.

You are correct. Lots of thought really did go into the name, as well as the livery and design of the art work on the fuselage.
If you have time, watch this video. It is a detailed explanation from the artist that designed the look of the new aircraft. He is renowned island artist Sig Zane, and he explains in great detail the thought that went into his designs. I thought it was fascinating.

Aloha,

Thanks for sharing the link to this video. Fantastic story and probably the first time that I've heard and airline branding explained in a way that felt sincere and not just some marketing story. Beautiful design and very evocative of the culture.

Its great to see a true designer craft an airline logo/livery rather than a marketing consultant. So much thought and cultural understanding is present in this design. I totally identify with the interest in the lines of the interisland route map, as I often "doodle" the connecting lines between our islands when I'm bored. I'm really glad they were able to incorporate that with the kapa stamp designs...very original and truly Hawaiian. I can't wait to see it in person.

-Aloha!

It's a unique, intricate, well-thought design. I'm sure it will look just as great, if not better, in person.

Well done, HA!

Hawaiian is a class act. I just viewed the video link in the original posting and have to say how refreshing it is to see a U.S. carrier create a brand identity with such intention that is reflective of the carrier's origins, history, and culture. I think their brand identity is one of the best in the industry.

On another note, it has gratified me immensely to watch Hawaiian blossom into a major international carrier and hope to see the company's financial metrics improve significantly in the coming year. I just love seeing the "Pualani" tails of HA's aircraft grace the capital airports across Asia and hope that their corporate strategy is a winning one for years to come...

Empire is based in Coeur d'Alene/Hayden, ID, not Boise.

No need to apologize. I wasn't trying to be a jerk by correcting you, just being informative.

Hayden is in north Idaho, near Spokane, WA. Boise is almost 400 miles south.

48 as previously stated, but with the intricate design and color from tail to mid fuselage with the design ending around the wing area, it creates a virtual halfway point with white up front and color behind. the one solid color up front combined with the 3 toned colors in the rear give the illusion of the rear being very short and therefore the whole aircraft appearing smaller than it would look if it were say all one solid color.

Kudos to HA and looking forward to seeing these on the ground and in the air here in HNL!

Empire has a ton of experience with the ATR-42 and the -72. It was one of the first operators of the -42's for the FedEx Connector fleet, flying out of GEG.

Empire also has a maintenance base at GEG for the ATR fleet. When they took delivery of the ex-Eagle -42's from FedEx, I believe Empire carried out the conversions on at least a few at GEG.

Empire also has the heavy maintenance contract for Horizon's Q400 fleet. Those are carried out in Coeur D'Alene.

Quoting usxguy (Reply 13):

I'll take a guess it'll be painted at GEG at the Associated Painters hangar.

Very nice indeed! I have always admired Hawaiian Air. Such a shame that Air Canada wasn't more creative when they rebranded our regional division .. Jazz (my employer), Skyregional and Georgian become " Express". So creative don't you think?........uuugh.

They'll deliver the ‘Ohana ATR42s with ferry tanks in the cabin.

As far as Island Air goes, with Larry Ellison being the purported buyer, he's planning to invest some $$$ into the airline. Before Ellison's purchase, MKU announced that they would have 3 ATR72s and 3 ATR42s over the next few years. Not sure if Ellison will keep with that plan ... The most Dash8-100s MKU had at one time was 8.

If any airline should feel threatened, it probably will be go! In the past 6+ years, all go! has done, has been to rotate CRJ100s and 200s out when heavy maintenance is required. Their fleet size has not grown above 6 planes. People only fly go!, because their fares are cheap. However, cargo & large bags (read: coolers, golf bags, and surfboards) are a challenge for go! pax.
