Today Hugo Chavez died and reelections will take place in 30 days, and if the Opposition candidate wins, I think the chances of IAH-MAR will go up. I think the route could be flown on UA metal or a Venezuelan airline. I think this could be the start of better times for Venezuela.

Way too early to draw any political conclusions in Venezuela. It would benefit both countries for there to be open skies and free trade but the relationship between the U.S. and Venezuela is complex and hostile at times.
Lets see what the candidates say about the U.S. and trade over the next month.

Sad but true, the V.P. (now current President) has very similar views towards the US that Chavez did. The only way much will change is if indeed the opposition is some how voted into power. Keep in mind Chavez was popular with the poorer citizens of Venezuela, the majority of the voters, I believe the opposition will have an uphill battle for control. I hope things don't get crazy down there, and that all people in the country remain safe during this transition.
It would be nice to see more freedom for travel between Venezuela and North America. I'm sure there is way more to the politics that have things as restricted as they are currently. Best of luck to the people of Venezuela and some future progress.

The Venezuelan gov't stopped it. CO never would have on their own.
It's too early for IAH-MAR even if new frequencies by US carriers were allowed. It will take significant re-investment in Venezuela by IAH-based oil&gas which I'm not sure they're ready to do again given that all the previously built infrastructure was nationalized and there are far less risky onshore projects that need funded.
