This is very scary! Does anyone have details on the fate of N88ZL? Their website shows the interior and the thing is amazing!

Where did you hear that from? That is a beautiful plane, I'd be sad to see her go, especially since I built a model of her in the 1966 colors.

Why is this scary?

It is a loud gas guzzling 707 from the 60's

She has had a long and useful life, let her rest in peace.

Hardly what you'd call peace, more like pieces.. I'm sad to hear she'll be scrapped. I had the pleasure to spot her once on a trip to STN. What a fantastic airplane!

Wrong on the "loud" claim. Take a closer look at the engine nacelles.

It does drink the Jet-A though!

Yup, it does have the hush kits installed. I think that the money it took to repaint, install the new interior and avionics would be enough to keep her flying. Heck at least sell it ... don't cut her in half!

It would be a shame to see N88ZL get scrapped. This aircraft used to be a regular sight at MME in the late 90s, where I saw it on a number of occasions. Certainly one of the more interesting visitors.

Looks like Lufthansa was the original owner, correct?

This aircraft was also used in an episode of Playboy's The Girls Next Door a few years ago. Unfortunately much of the footage was at night at LAX, but the interior of the Boeing 707 was still impressive. I don't know why they chose to use the aging airliner for the series; perhaps eighty-six-year-old Hugh Hefner still believes the Boeing 707-320 is a modern, contemporary jet flying the airways today!

Why is this scary?

It's like cutting up a 57 Chevy or knocking down a local landmark.

There aren't too many 707s flying these days and one that is a VIP plane is even rarer.

Because it doesn't look like an old turd or anything. Most people wouldn't know how old it was.

Yes.

I remember spotting this 707 back in 2007 or so at PSP. She had come in from HNL and was heading on to Florida I think. Was quite the treat!

This aircraft seems to have a Roman Abramovitch 767 lookalike colour scheme.

I believe she needs a heavy check, and it will be done if there's committed work for the airplane that makes the check viable. But otherwise...

Perhaps Lufthansa should buy it to be the basis of their next project after the Starliner is done?

Correct, delivered on December 28, 1965 as D-ABUF "Hannover." Served in LH colors and performed the last LH 707 flight in 1984. Originally, she looked like this.
