I see that BA is using a Titan Airways craft G-POWD as BA 175 LHR-JFK today.
Question, does the cabin match the BA level, would a Club World passenger get a flat bed, could not find a picture.
If not I guess compensation is due. Does this happen often long haul?

It's an all-economy configuration, already announced on ba.com, which covers flights from March 16th - 20th.

Those traveling in higher classes have been offered another flight or a full refund. The substitution is due to a few planes being out of service unexpectedly, without enough slack in the fleet to cover.

The straw that broke the camel's back in this case was an engine failure on a B744 at DFW.

Seems like everyone can get a refund, not only Business travellers.

If I booked a BA Economy ticket I would want to avoid this inferior service...

Flew on POWD the other day up to EDI, immaculate cabin, IFE was switched off, and 777 interior, very clean and professional crew, no complaints..

Of course. But only those in the higher classes were proactively offered a switch or refund, as their ticketed cabin of service no longer existed. Those in Economy have to request a change or refund themselves if they prefer not to travel on Titan.

You know, it's funny, I had to wait for her to get towed into the gate at T7 and was thinking how interesting it was to see her there. This explains why she's here! Caught a pic for y'all, sorry it's not a.net quality, but still got a pic:

Since we're discussing BA at JFK

Any idea why a BA 777 was at T8 the other day?

Last gate on the end of midfield concourse.

I found that odd.

I would say this was Thursday night

I'm surprised BA just didn't cancel the flight and re-book pax to one of the number of frequent BA and AA services to JFK.

What makes you think it would be inferior to the usual BA economy ?

I'd argue it would actually be better for Economy passengers. BA's JFK services are either 747s (with a 3-4-3 layout in Economy) or 777s (with a 3-3-3 layout). The Titan 767 has a 2-3-2 layout. I know which of those configurations I would prefer!

I would much prefer a 7-abreast (2-3-2) 767 to even a 9-abreast (3-3-3) 772. Only a 1 in 7 chance of a middle seat, compared to 1 in 3. And Titan's seat map shows 265 seats while Boeing shows 290 seats at 31-32 inch pitch possible in an all-Y configuration on a 763, so the seat pitch doesn't appear to be too cramped.

The BA website states "Unfortunately on these flights we can only offer you an Economy meal, reduced inflight entertainment system using drop down screens and there will be no inflight shopping available."

But the ZT website images shows seatback IFE in all seats !? This seems like a much better than usual service for BA Y class customers on the route.

Yep, some terminal issues. Been screwing up a few flights, not just BA.

J and F (and possibly Y+) pax get rebooked onto a different service. Personally would love to fly Titan to NY, very unusual and make some pocket money selling safety cards on eBay.

Reminds me of when AA had one of their long haul 757s go tech at Boston one evening before a transatlantic flight, so they sent a domestic machine to London (all AA 757s are ETOPS mx'd -ERs so no problem with legality or range) with the domestic F class in the front; those booked in J were put on the BA 747 (or 747s - is it two a night?) (and maybe a few on VS) and the "F" (I use the term loosely) cabin was used for gold card holding Y pax.

No difference really as all BA long haul Y seats have IFE screens

I flew on a short European service on this aircraft a while back and I remember thinking at the time how I wouldn't mind doing a longer flight on it. It's a beautiful aircraft inside. Comfortable soft light grey leather seats, all with PTV and ample legroom. The service was also very good, offered with plenty of warm smiles by a very professional cabin crew. I was extra impressed, given that they were providing another airline's service at the time, which would have been unfamiliar to them, but as a passenger off the street, with no particular knowledge or expectation of the product, you would never know.

If I knew this aircraft was operating a flight I could easily switch to from one I was booked on, I would volunteer myself for the switch.

With the J.V., AA gets snarled up with this too. AA has internal instructions for folks booked on these flights as AA* codeshare bookings (flights AA*6140/6133), 16-20MAR. As AA doesn't have regulatory authority to codeshare on Titan, they have to cancel the AA* segments and rebook and reticket people still wanting those flights on the prime BA flight numbers. Since they are only Y aircraft, they are contacting the folks in the premium cabins to offer reaccomodation on other AA*/BA flights within 5 days, offer voluntary downgrades on the Titan flights with differences refunded, or cancel and full refund. Coach passengers are offered alternate flights or refunds if they don't want to fly Titan.

Titan has a reputation for excellent cabin service and high standards. It's used by some of the most exclusive travel agencies for their services, worldwide, and I would be delighted to find they were operating my flight and replacing the usual mediocre BA product.

Work on jetties in terminal 7 has meant that there is not enough room for all the BA departures so the BA177 is leaving from terminal 8 for the most of March.

Surely this is completely incorrect. Titan aren't operating the flights, they have been wet leased by BA to opearet a BA coded flight.
