Quoting PHX787 (Reply 3): I wonder if the NRT flight is gone for good. Maybe KE could possibly work something from ICN-SLC.
SLC-NRT did not operate in S12 and is not in the schedules right now for S13. So the last time it operated would have been almost 2 years ago. Too bad, it was a great flight to non-rev on
If the left hand side of the equation is "it was a great flight to non-rev on", then the right hand side of the equation inevitably equals "unprofitable".

The airport TRAX line is scheduled to open on April 14th, providing a fast and easy transit link to downtown.
AS flights to SEA start on April 4th. I was pleasantly surprised to hear recently that they will fly out of the C concourse and have their check-in facility in Terminal 2. Other than DL, the only airlines that I can remember (but I'm no expert) ever using T2 are WA and AM, so that's pretty big news.
I don't know how long it's been since you've passed through the airport, but they recently finished up a major overhaul of the food and retail outlets. The dining options were substantially upgraded.
And finally, the airport recently launched a new website dedicated to the terminal redevelopment project. It will still be a while before we see any dirt moving, but the wheels are rolling: http://myairportslc.com/

Quoting slcdeltarumd11 (Reply 1): CDG upgraded from a 767 to 330 for Summer. Not much now but a lot of future stuff with train service to downtown and new terminals coming.
Yeah, I know that one...Im booked on it on June 2nd, beginning in DOH, connecting through CDG onto SLC.
Quoting slcdeltarumd11 (Reply 1): Recently we have seen AA add LAX, UA add IAD, and US add CLT and PHL.
I knew AA started LAX and UA aded IAD, but I heard nothing of US FINALLY adding PHL...

Yeah...I have issues with that, sorta. Im wondering how many times it'll stop throughout North Temple before it gets downtown.

Ohh, this I havent heard....this is awesome! Yes, WA and AM were the only other airlines to use T2.

I've seen a junkload of the renovations, last time I passed through was on Feb 7th.
Woohoo! Back to Beirut in Oct '13! (Along with a stop in DOH for 4 days)
After leaving the airport, there are 5 stops along North Temple. Stop #6 will be the existing Arena Station (aka Delta Center), and then it will continue through downtown on the existing main line and head out to West Valley.

It appears that DL has no intention of stopping SLC-CDG, as was rumored.
SLC-NRT would be a great route for the 787-8 if DL were getting them anytime soon. The 777-200LR could do it too, but I suspect that's too much airplane for the route.

The A330 had too much weight restrictions taking off of SLC. They wouldn't sell all the seats or fill them or take on really heavy cargo. The flight is great for connectivity but they really didnt have a good plane for the mission. The 767 has some problems at SLC in the summer for CDG i think that was also part of the reason to get the A330 in there as well with its range.

That's kind of what I was just saying. The 787-8 or 777-200LR can do SLC-NRT without restriction AFAIK. The 767 and A330 cannot.

I'm sure this has to do with DL ground handling the AS operation as they do in 13 other stations in the US.

Quoting slcdeltarumd11 (Reply 14): SLC really seems pretty stable but maybe AA to MIA or B6 to FLL or BOS could happen.
There's rumours abound, but here i STL, where theres a lot of TWA...erm...AA folk...there's a rumour of MIA-SLC on 738, and perhaps an upguage on the STL-LAX from the MD-80.
Quoting slcdeltarumd11 (Reply 14): Long term i could see the Virgin Atlantic joining skyteam and more LHR slots possible that maybe SLC-LHR is possible
It may happen. SLC-London (either airport) has been rumoured since the early 90's. At this point, if DL ges more LHR slots, it could possibly happen. Although, in my opinion...SLC-NRT would return first, and maybe, just maybe, KE could be enticed to start ICN-SLC. Just my .02 cents.

I would love to see a VS 346 or 744 or eventual 789 parked at D2. Would make for quite a view from the windows there by the kids' play area. Speaking of which, I know that when larger jets use that gate that they park at an angle and block access to D4. When that happens, is it possible to manipulate the jet bridge at D4 to use two jetways to board a flight? It looks to me like it should be possible, but maybe it's more hassle than it's worth to move ground equipment around and such?
But honestly, with all this talk about LHR/ICN/NRT etc, we have to remember SLC has only three international arrival gates, and widebodies use two spaces. New flights would have to be scheduled around the existing Paris and Mexico services. I think we might have to wait for the new terminal to see much expansion. Either that, or they might need to park some inbound flights at a remote stand and bus pax over to FIS. (And yes, I realize that gate space is far down the list of arguments against these flights, but it happens to be the one on my mind right now.)
The CDG flight comes in at about 14:00 and goes out around 17:00, and is timed pretty well for connections on both ends. IIRC, the NRT flight was timed to depart before the CDG flight arrived when both were still running. There was one day in 2011 that I was going through SLC and saw two 332s on the ground at the same time-- one operating NRT-SLC-ATL, the other doing the opposite route. How often did that happen? IIRC, they were scheduled to not overlap, but one or the other was delayed that day. What gate did the ATL-SLC-NRT flight normally use? That route wouldn't need to use an international gate, but I don't know which other gates are equipped for the 330.

If I remember correctly, D4 was too far away, even if the 763 or 332 were angled.

You're right...I cant wait to see the "new" airport be built.

The only time I EVER flew the SLC-ATL segment on the 332 was departing out of D6.

Allegiant announced service today from Provo to Oakland. Great to see someone flying out of Provo. So Cal seems like the really good opportunity though.
