17 million? Boy somebody got a deal if you ask me. I doubt the prices for 717s are very high but that sounds super cheap. Perhaps DL saw a deal and decided to grab them? Though I suppose there are a couple other operators that have the type and may want to expand.

I was so focused on the fact that the aircraft sold I didn't even look at that. 2.7 million a piece is a deal!

I am guessing these a/c will be headed to Cobham Aviation or Delta.

While the leaseholder is changing hands, the operator of the aircraft is not; they're currently operated by Cobham Aviation for QuantasLink. They're the six examples delivered to TW/AA in 2001.

$17 million is the cash proceeds realized from the sale, not the actual sale price.

The 17 million is a capital gain over what was owed on these aircraft, not what they sold for. Probably sold to a bank or another leasing outfit.

Wasn't the order for Cobham Aviation / Qantaslink 5 x B717's...?

Australia has a big "FIFO" (fly in fly out) regional network with all the mining companies operating in remote areas. The 717 fits the requirements for this quite well.

Yes, the new order is for 5. But these are ones already with QF. All that's changed is the lessor, operationally nothing has changed.

Oh okay. That makes more sense. I'm not much of a number guru so I jumped to conclusions a little quick!

Wow.

Now Gross proceeds is money before costs:
http://www.investorwords.com/3870/proceeds.html

So this implies they were sold for less than $3 million per aircraft.

This implies:
1. The aircraft were depreciated agressively.
2. Lease rates on the 717 are not too high.

That would be net proceeds.

Thanks for the correction -- I had a brain fart last night, including my embarrassing misspelling of Qantas.
