Volotea: How Are They Performing So Far?

I havent seen any reports on Volotea's performance lately and I am wondering how things are tracking for them?

Given they started off growing at a huge rate, which is a concern in many occasions based on past history, it would be great to hear any updates on them so far.

After operating a fleet of 9 B-717s since last summer, they slowly add a few further 717s since a month which seem to suggest they didn't loose more money then they expected in their first year.

nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

Volotea will launch two new bases next week (March 28th) : Palermo and Bordeaux. On the other hand the Ibiza' s base will not be restarted this summer.

You won´t hear much about them, they are a bit secretive. I wanted to arrange an interview with their PR guy a while ago and the e-mail I got was pretty exactly: "Sorry, as a company policy, we do not talk to the media at all".

Interesting strategy, especially as new businesses generally love to be on the front foot with the media to maximise free promotional opportunities.

Do they advertise much?

Very strange. Normally if I hear of such a company policy, I would reckon that the purpose of such a company is to launder money from dubious sources.

They received their 10th Boeing 717 (ex-Midwest Airlines, ex-Click Mexicana N920ME), re-registered EI-FBK, on March 14th 2013 from the US via KEF and PMI. After that, it flew to OLB. It's probably one of the two that will be based at BOD from March 30th. On the other hand, they will also operate a Sunday charter flight from BOD to RAK from April 7th 2013.

Next trip : BOD - CDG - GIG - SSA - GIG - CDG - BOD

I take a look daily to Spanish media (press, internet, radio, no TV) and as far as I can see, not advertissements at all. Also, you don't find reports in the newspapers about them. I don't know if in Italy or France the strategy is different.

In BOD, advertissements on radio and bus stops, also a huge one at the airport entrance road since their arrival last year.

I also saw a lot of advertisements at Angers train station, for flights from NTE.

I'm curious as well, but they seem to at least be doing ok. They have an interesting concept, kind of like G4 here in the US with their less-than-daily services from multiple bases.

Some days ago they opened a new base at Bordeaux with 2 planes and routes to Ibiza, Málaga, Strasbourg, Venice, Munich, etc.

It would be interesting to know more about their CASM considering their destinations and their B717 fleet (compared to the usual LCC aircraft, ie, 738 or 319-320). Anybody could enlighten us?

As a European p2p regional LCC that has survived for one full year since its launch, they must necesarily be doing quite well (or their owners have lots of cash to burn). Their growth has been very aggressive and risky. But being launched by the founders of Vueling gives them some credibility. Let's see how they do this year...

Which makes you wonder why they even have a "PR guy" in the first place!?
