The carrier also per its CEO is in discussions with Boeing to modify its inherited order of 20 787-9 aircraft to now include 10 787-8 versions instead for delivery commencing 2014. CEO also says they are reviewing the proposed 787-10 variant as well.

I guess they wish for aircraft faster, and too long wait on original 787-9 order maybe.

Suppose this means substantial growth of Scoot commencing in 2014.

Yes sounds like by converting to the 787-8 they hope to get some frames sooner.

I wonder what delivery positions these would be that Boeing can juggle?

Like the CEO said this might be a good move anyhow - "operationally interchangeable so there's no efficiency impact, but the different capacities open more options with respect to network and deployment"

Any idea on where Scoot plans to go next as 787 arrive?

Maybe more China, more Australia, something in India, secondary markets in Japan ?

If they do a better job of connecting and joint sales with Tiger they can probably create a more useful network and more options for the budget customers.

Also one big decision driver is probably where big brother SQ wants Scoot to go.

Great news for ICN. Air Asia X is also increasing ICN to 11x weekly. Hopefully it's all sustainable!

I wish they'd just choose an engine for their 787s.

Quoting mercure1 (Reply 3):
more Australia

There is talk of the next Scoot Australian destination being MEL. Will be interesting to see how that plays out as SQ are in the process of adding a 4th daily frequency on SIN-MEL.
