According to the Italian financial newspaper "Il Sole 24 Ore", VS is in talks with AFKL and AZ for the creation of a JV focused on the Asian-Middle East-African markets.

If this rumor will be confirmed, this will represent a significant step into the market consolidation through the JVs.
Still wondering when this JVs proliferation will become a problem for the existing alliances such as SkyTeam, Star and OW.

Very interesting news. If true, on doubt entry in Skyteam is on the radar very soon.

Not surprising at alll given the new DL ownership! Good times ahead for VS IMHO.

And the fact that a good portion of DL flights to/from LHR use AF/KL slots and that these flights are part of the AF/KL/AZ JV. VS joining the existing JV would seem to be the simplest solution.

And what does this bring to the table for AF/KL exactly? They already fly everywhere VS do with more frequency. I can see anything would only be good for AZ in their ever precarious situation.

Just a great new family member to cross the pound. LHR CDG and AMS as gateways, not bad at all don't you think ?

I don't see this as a "J.V.," I pretty much see this as a step-into Skyteam. AF, KL, AZ, and 49% DL ownership? Skyteam. It's all math, folks.

By pertnering with Virgin they get access to all the Virgin FF's in the UK who may currently use BA for the places VS don't fly. Surely AF/KL can see the potential in just that alone.

Exactly so.

I fly VS whenever possible, the problem is their network is very limited - being able to fly into Europe and earn VS miles will be an amazing step forward, adios Avios!

I cannot wait for VS to join SkyTeam. Living Orlando (MCO) and being a Delta flyer this will benefit me quite a bit on my trips to Europe since AF no longer serves MCO.

The company I work for has a Skyteam only policy. If VS would become Skyteam member it would mean that those flying from London will have to take VS if possible. Thus VS in your alliance or JV would mean you can offer your corporate customers more options within the same alliance, and thus larger discounts as the volume within the alliance or JV increases.

It is tangentially related, but how many of the following US cities could see DL/VS JV service to LHR?

Altogether, Delta flies from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport to 11 U.S. destinations: Atlanta, New York-JFK, Newark, Cincinnati, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Detroit, Seattle, Boston, Salt Lake City, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

If they are already staffing those airports for a CDG flight can they generate the pax demand to an hour or so later handle a LHR flight at the station currently not serving LHR?

Could Salt Lake City work through the VS joint venture if Virgin Holidays were to market winter holidays?
