Lufthansa is sending the new 747-8i to Miami!

Just got the news in today's LH newsletter. The earliest date I can find in the system is May 30. The flight doesn't seem to be daily yet. So it will be A380 in the winter and 747-8i in the summer for MIA.

I posted this already in

LH's Last Seasonal A380 Flight To MIA (3/30/13) (by Miami Mar 29 2013 in Civil Aviation)

but I thought this deserved a thread of its own.

No, just the newsletter in German but you can try booking a flight on http://www.lufthansa.com and see for yourself.

Lufthansa will only fly the 747-8i into MIA twice a week. On Thursday and Friday.

I expect this route will go daily soon with three more deliveries scheduled until July, bringing the fleet to nine planes.

I'm sure the 747-8i will go daily to MIA eventually.

If the 744 was daily through out most of the year I'm sure a 748
will be daily. I know the demand slows a bit during summer but,
the 748 will be a success in MIA.

Can't wait to see it in MIA!

Seems that from 30th of May the aircraft has been changed from 744 to 748 on days 4 & 5.

I had the pleasure of flying on the first ever 747-8i service from HKG to FRA (the FRA-HKG was still on a 744).
It's an amazing machine, very modern and nicely designed interior. A world apart from the 747-400. the new Business Class was really good. No noticeable differences in the service provided by the crew, which is consistently very good.
Although the 747-400 is iconic, I am looking forward to a fleet of about 40 A380 and B747-8 on LH long haul network.
Miami is a sweet addition.
More US and South Americaln routes will probably follow.
The next example, the 7th, is scheduled for delivery this month and by mid Summer there will be 9 in service before deliveries continue next year.
23 B747-400 remain active (3 recently returned from short term storage)

Ciao
Stefano
