Very sad I would say! Today marks the end of Ansett Australia. Ansett is such a great airline and it provides outstanding service.

However, I do believe that Ansett will be restructured and there will be Ansett 2 coming out.

Comments?

If Ansett Two is to be set up, will they still have International Flights, or even to European as well as American Cities? Will they still keep their two B 747-400s for long haul routes?

I think it will be considerbly smaller after Virgin Blue and Qantas devour their fleet at very attractive prices.

Ansett should be the same as it was, except for one thing, the owner should never be a KIWI, as they couldn't manage a
company if their life depended upon it.

Ansett was and is a great airline.

NO COMPANY SHOULD EVER BE RUN OR OWNED BY NEW
ZEALANDERS

The Federal Government should not underestimate the sentiment and goodwill that
Australians feel toward Ansett.
The joke current in the eighties; How do you make a New Zealander successful in
small business? Give him a large one and wait a couple of years is sadly just as true
today.

Why did the kiwis have to destroy another great australian icon, as they have to a number of great australian companies.

Ansett don't need to have people that run to save themselves.

What do you think?

Ansett should be reborn in her 1980s guise, simply:
"Ansett."
A statement, not a name.

I agree! Ansett WILL NOT die easily. It will be reborned and it will be as big or not even bigger than it was!

They will probably do a 'restructure' to Ansett.

All the best to Ansett Australia!

364512158: You remind me of someone. Still trying to think whom...

Ansett: I dunno. I think we should explore the options for it, and then comment. Anyone like to start?

Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

364512158, I am a New Zealander, and i am certainly taking offence to what you are saying about ALL New Zealanders.
My name may be AirNZ, and i too do have 2 sisters who work at AirNZ. I myself would be dreading if the company went under, and so would they. I am sorry that your family has had such a loss, but come on mate, keep it directed at The New Zealand government, that is where all your anger should be going, not AirNZ!! AirNZ have tried everything in its power to save youse, but all atempts have failed. You know you were once a very profitable airline, but before AirNZ even bought youse, you were in a bad shape.
Yes i do agree that AirNZ should not of taken the other half, but with the problems they had with Newscorp, they wanted to be the full owners, and not have to debate it out with other shareholders.
I am so sorry once again, and i hope one day in the near future, you can see where i am coming from, and why NZ is not to blame as much as you are stateing it out to be. The NZ government is much, much more to blame!! They knew how much AirNZ was loosing. Trust me they knew the full amount regardless of what people are saying. She just took her time, and as people are saying, she most probably wanted AN to go under.
Once again, i donot know when to stop saying i am so sorry!!
Please look on the bright side, if there is any!

And once again, not all of us New Zealanders are bad. But also donot forget it is an aussie running AirNZ, so basically it was an Aussie that ran the two airlines into the ground with Selwyn (F***wit!!).

Mikey
PS To all Aussies, i am so sorry you have lost an Icon, that many say was the best airline.
But once again, please donot bag all New Zealanders, for just 10 peoples mistakes!!
Mikey

Before any new Ansett should come in to play. Why not bloody fix the whole Australian Aviation management up. Dick Smith made a great point about reform today saying that reform needs to take place or Qantas could go down with Ansett in about 3-4 years. He went on to mention, Asian Airlines like Singapore Airlines have very good and smart management behind them. When asked if he would buy Ansett he said "I would, but first we need to make sure reform takes place. Then I would buy it but without the dumb management behind it (he doesnt necessarily mean just Kiwis, mind you)."

Lets hope reform takes place. Landing fees are too high, ATC gets $2million more than it deserves and as Dick Smith said "Australian Airlines are run by dumb management."

Come on.

TO ALL.

This is to advise those who would say that Ansett Australia was in "bad shape" before Air New Zealand completly took over Ansett Australia Holdings Ltd.

ANSETT AUSTRALIA WAS NOT IN FINANCIAL TROUBLE, AND FOR THE TWO YEARS BEFORE THE MERGER, ANSETT AUSTRALIA WAS ABLE TO ANNOUNCE A PROFFIT OF AU$24.1 MILLION IN THE FIRST YEAR, AND AU$140.6 MILLION (BOTH FIGURES APPROXIMATE) IN THE SECOND YEAR.

Michael.
Ansett Australia - Absolutely.

Ansett was growing when AirNZ took it over, what went wrong, Why did AirNZ say that it had great new ideas to take ansett further but not deliver.

Ansett will live on just you wait, it will bigger, better, and you will see the demise of Air New Zealand.

How about their two leased B 747-400s? Will they still be around with Ansett 2?

Come on guys, it is not the New Zealander Publics fault. As sad as it all sounds, it was a business decision that went bad. It happens, get used to it. I have to wonder how ignorant some of us are being, Major Airlines continue to loose the ability to operate as an Airline. Panam is a classic example. Should we not fly Qantas and should all qantas employees rot because of what they did to Impulse, Compass and Compass Two. Or are we being a little to hypocritical. I suggest those of you that are bursting wth anger wait for a couple of days before saying anything and cool down. These kind of outbursts will not solve the problem and will not prove anything except your ignorance and Immaturity. While it is sad that so many people are out of a job, it is not the New Zealands public fault.

Now go ahead and flame me, you mean nothing to me and every comment you throw at me does not change my stature in Society

Not letting Air NZ aircraft to leave Australia will solve the problem, it will send them broke. Then NZ won't have a airline.
