BWI Opens New Concourse C Security & B-C Connector

The new security checkpoint along with the A/B-C connector opened today, making it easier for SWA/FL passengers to connect to flights on C. It looks very nice.

The person who designed BWI originally must have been the same person who designed the A&B concourse at EWR where each individual pier in the same concourse has its own security. Thank god that you no longer have to reclear security when flying on Southwest.

I was up at the airport yesterday with the kids, and completely forgot they were doing this. They were excited for the observation area (it's been a few years since I've worked at BWI), so needless to say, we were all bummed. Plus it was misty, so the park just south of 33L wasn't much more fun. Oh well. At least the checkpoint(s) look nice!

Maybe I am missing something, but how will this impact customs or international travel? I thought the only customs facilities were at the E pier which is not connected to any of the others. Do any international flights arrive at A, B or C?

And also all international passengers to the USA have to clear immigration and customs at the first port of entry, then they are re-screened.

Airtran has a few Latin American flights.

Only international flight growth will be new Airtran routes in Latin America. BWI can barely keep LHR service. I believe they are paying BA to keep the 1x going. Condor will be interesting new service, though (starting in June). BWI is increasingly Southwest Airlines International Airport.

According to the WN website, AirTran will be using gates C12 and C14. These two gates are at the far, right end of the C Concourse...wonder why they weren't able to get C2 and C4 (right next to the B/C-Connector)

I used to date a girl in BWI area during college and I got dropped off at the airport and cleared my AA flights in 5 minutes through security.

Back then AA used to fly 757s between BWI-DFW. I remember flying one of the ex-TW ones on DFW-BWI in October 2007.

AirTran has been using these gates for a while. I assume once all of the concourse renovations are complete they will have more and closer gates. Remember the only things that opened were security and the connector and the concessions in the connector are not even open. There are still a lot of renovations that haven't been completed.

Also, it was said BWI may open a gate or two on C for AirTran's international flights, I don't know if that came to fruition or not however.

It sure is depending on the time of day. I have a monthly business flight on Delta leaving BWI at 6.00 AM (returning the same day). I live 15 mins drive from BWI. I leave home at 5.10 AM, get to the airport, park, and am on board the aircraft between 5:35 and 5:40. It does help that I use PreCheck.

BWI already given notice to the other airlines that they will be relocating 2014-2015 timeframe.
BWI will eventually become one of if not the biggest WN city.

Is there enough room for everyone in D and E?

In addition, is there possibility that D30-D35 will be reopened because of this?

So Concourse C is being widened? What modications are being done to C? Is all of Concourse D used (old home to US Air's hub)?
