Me thinks this finally means that BA will start to assign some of the short haul route slots to Longhaul routes (both existing and new). From this I have determined that BA have released 24 slot pairs for redistribution when you add up all the decreases in SH frequency. Wonder were they will go. I predict the following:

Seperate DOH service
KUL
new US destination (perhaps DTW, PIT, or CLT)
DAC
SCL

Or maybe some LGW route swaps.

I heard PDX and FLL were rumored.

Don't CLT and DTW already have nonstops to LHR?

Yes, but not by BA/Oneworld. However, now that AA and US are merging I expect to see BA metal on the CLT route.

BA flew CLT-LGW with US B762s and later on theit own B763s so would be nice to see them back. DTW was dying for many years so unless the market has bounced back, it's going to be left to DL.

Seems odd that RTM & LBA are not being reduced as suggestion was that these were the slot sitting routes prior to longhaul expansion.

FLL has been suggested for some time, however most of those suggestions were for a LGW route not LHR

Is because they could be planning on shipping some A319's across to the LGW fleet?

Very possibly, however the LHR slots would have to be used for something or lost by BA

Apparently a weekly service to Gran Canaria is being launched from LHR.

Not neccesarily, slots workk on the basis that you have to use them 80% of the time across the scheduling season. BA can move flights by a couple of minutes on a day by day basis in order to preserve their slots.

PDX would be neat.

What would BA have to gain by serving FLL? Some cruise traffic perhaps, but is that lucrative enough when they can just route them via MIA? Just curious.

How would FLL work for BA when they have double daily flights 30 miles south to Miami International ? The only market for BA flying to two airports in the same place is New York, that is the only city it makes sense. Tokyo could be another but I am not so sure Haneda pays for itself.

I was wondering why they have dropped CMN they inherited from BMI, there is a huge potentials for connection flights from north America, especially with lots of people including me not happy with RAM prices and services

CMN has not be popular with flights to London... When EZY bought GT, neither BA nor EZY took over the route. When BA bought BD, CMN was again dropped. So I do not think we would see more of CMN except if they think of operting a LHR-CMN-DKR or LHR-CMN-RAK which I don't think will happen...

Next flights : BRU-ZRH-CAI (LX)/ BRU-FCO-TLV (AZ)

I agree with other OPs, a LHR-FLL wouldn't make much sense. But I could understand a LGW-FLL as an O&D flight. For instance, BA flies to LAS from both LGW and LHR, so why not instead of adding more frequencies to MIA or a LGW-MIA, do something "out of the box" and add new flights to FLL.

FLL ex LGW would work if BA were to offer BA holiday options for thing like cruises, for which I understand a decent market exists in FLL

I doubt it would happen either. If BA were to start a flight to Southern Florida from LGW, it would be to MIA in order to tie into the AA hub.

The cruise market is low yield anyways and you can easily charter buses from MIA to FLL if one operator really needs the cruise traffic.

IF BA really wanted fly to another Florida city between Miami and Orlando from LGW they should consider PBI. I doubt the market there is big enough for a daily flight but a few times weekly by 787-8 might work.

They tried that with SJU (ie a major cruise hub) and that was quietly dropped.

DTW was only put in, in order to fly to IAH, due to the Bermuda II.

BOAC had served DTW for many years, it was a declining route which was chosen to be split with IAH towards the end.
