Has there been another other infamous 747 losses captured in such dramatic fashion ( i.e video) or even remotely close to that of N949CA?

I am aware of incidents related to other types but the 747 seems to have been elusive despite her long service.

Thank you.

Had a dream of a 747 stalling over me long ago so it was fascinating but very sad to see it really happen. Sickening

According to Aviation Safety, yes it was. She was a 24 year old plane after all...

I saw a video once of a 747 being blown up by a bomb in the cargo bay. Does anybody have a link? As far as I remember, it was an all white livery.
Definitely a hull loss.

I remember seeing that too. It was a test being conducted for bomb safety and to actually investigate possible ways to make airliners less fatally suseptable to them. It was fascinating to watch it just fall apart like paper being blown away.

That's the one I'm thinking of! Thanks, my youtube at work is "lack-luster" and searching videos doesn't pan well.

Thanks!

135mech, you must be using government internet. At my base Youtube videos take HOURS to load even on the lowest DPI settings. Yes I know... I should be working, not watching Youtube right? 10 and 2 breaks!

IIRC, the experiment was done to test a hypothesis that a relatively small bomb could down a large airliner if the airliner was pressurized. They used a frame that was set to be scrapped, but could still be pressurized. Obviously, the hypothesis was confirmed.

eksath, I honestly have not seen a video of a 747 crash like this before. Have you noticed how many crashes are recorded lately? It is incredible to see these crashes. I wish we had the camera technology we have today, working back since say the 1950s. Can you imagine seeing footage of the Tenerife disaster, or any other crash? Call me morbid, but I find it kind of fascinating. When I was a kid I got a book called "Plane Crash". It was full of pictures and stories. Every since reading that book, plane crashes have been a huge interest to me. So much so, I even consider visiting a few crash sites before I get too old to do so.

Odd, but I have been "watching" for years and at times have horrific dreams of planes falling out of the sky. This was as bad as those nightmares. Really sobering and quite quite sad. I had a fear that they would re occur last night. I will be on a CRJ from LGA to STL in eight hours. I trust I won't think about it a bit.

Off the subject, but does anyone recall the story of the lady who had the premonition (dream) of the AA191 disaster? She dreamt of it, i believe, days (??) before it happened... It was in an episode of "In Search Of" (hosted by Leonard Nimoy)

Do beleive that was Lindsay Wagner (The Bionic Woman).
