EY and AF are strengthening their strategic agreement signed in October 2012 and will jointly operate towards new destinations in Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe, from the summer 2013 :

- AF will codeshare with EY on its daily services from AUH to Sydney, Melbourne and Khartoum. AF is also expecting to codeshare with EY on its Singapore - Brisbane service and, subject to approval, on the AUH - Kathmandu route.
AF already codeshares with EY on its twice daily CDG - AUH, and onwards to Colombo, Mahé (Seychelles) and Malé (Maldives)

- EY will codeshare with AF on its CDG - Oslo and Stockholm services, and subject to approval, on CDG to Lisbon and Marseilles.
EY already codeshares with AF from CDG to Bordeaux, Copenhagen, Madrid, Nice and Toulouse.

This new agreement makes it possible for AF to keep on offering a service to Australia as its codeshare agreement with Qantas has come to an end. Last week, during a visit to Malaysia on the inaugural KUL service, AF CEO stated its company was exploring several solutions for the OZ route.

On the same topic, it can be noted QR will end its tag on Nice from its Doha - Milan service in the coming weeks. The French - Qatari bilateral do not allow the carrier to operate more than 3 daily services between the two countries and QR wants to consolidate its service to CDG. There is no plan to renegotiate the bilateral for the time being.

Questions :
- Is this codeshare agreement sufficient to replace the former one AF had with QF ?
- Is this strategic agreement between AF and EY a suitable answer to EK's expansion ?
- Is QR loosing ground versus EY and EK in Europe in general and in France in particular ?

even though AF will code share on EY to multiple destinations via AUH, the fact remains that EY operates a double daily A332/A333 (3 class configured) aircraft into CDG versus QR's triple daily A346 operated service which offers in total way more daily capacity. QR's Indian subcontinent, GCC, Africa and SE Asia network is much bigger than EY in terms of weekly seats deployed so in spite of this code share arrangement they will not be impacted that much except to Australia only !

With regards to KTM, QR operates 4 times daily from DOH versus EY's daily service.

Perhaps with all the talk of KL/VS co-ooeration we may also see AF and perhaps KL adding their codes to the VS HKG-SYD service too. Especially now MH is in Oneworld it may make sense for KL to shift that aus traffic via VS instead

Presumably though AF wants to continue to fly direct to India etc though!

Wouldn't it make more sence if KL would route through AUH? AF-KLM are strengthening there ties here.

That's the plan indeed.

BTW, does anyone know which 343 AF will wet-lease to EY (for CDG-AUH) until November? And if so, does it feature the NEV-4 "full sleep" seat in J cabin?
