With the 787 flying again, good time to restart this thread... Who would have thought that Dubai would be the queen of the 787 skies (6 of 7 current flights) given Emirates ordered a total of 0 aircraft. this is all temporary of course! LHR will be the lucky one in the next two weeks with ETH and QAT on their way.

Cheers

What about BA and JQ? Any info on those just yet?

How would the 787 fair for, say, LHR - DBN or LHR - MLE?
And for JQ say, SYD - DVO or MEL - PPT?

BA have said that the initial routes will be LHR-EWR, LHR-IAD, LHR-YYC and LHR-YYZ. No dates have yet to be announced. There will be some familiarization flights in Europe first.

QF changes its mind often on where to send the initial 787s. The latest iteration of the master plan has them replacing all A330s of JQ, which would be returned to QF to in turn replace its aging domestic 767s. Current JQ A330 routes include SYD-HNL, CNS-NRT, CNS-KIX, SIN-KIX, SIN-PEK, MEL-SIN, SIN-AKL, MEL-BKK, SYD-HKT, OOL-NRT, OOL-KIX amongst others.

Ah, thank you. Have the destinations for the familiarisation flights been announced or is that just random? I'm assuming they'll replace a few of the Euro 767s?

ANA today announced resumption of 787 international routes (FRA, PEK and SJC ) from 1 June 2013. SEA is also resuming but with 777.

ANA also starting new 787 intl routes: HND-TSA, NRT-PEK, both from 1 June 2013 and NRT-PVG from 1 August 2013.

All new routes are short-haul to make better efficient use of the fleet in between long-haul flights.

Cheers

Looks like LAN is almost ready to re-start 787 commercial ops on the SCL-EZE route with its first fixed aircraft. 22x weekly planned during familiarization period before launching SCL-LIM-LAX, SCL-LIM and SCL-MAD-FRA later this year.

It wont be for a while. The current fleet of 6 is almost maxed out for the proposed routes (starting 1 Aug 2013). It takes 3 aircraft to do the IAH-DEN-NRT-DEN-IAH-LOS-IAH loop and it also takes 3 aircraft for the LAX-NRT-LAX-PVG-LAX loop. There is room for a LAX-Domestic-LAX flight in the second loop if UA wanted to stretch that loop. Also LOS is 5x weekly so in theory could fly somewhere else for 2x weekly (unlikely to be attractive though).

New routes for UA will then need to wait for the next batch of aircrafts to arrive. Aircraft #7 is due for delivery in August/September 2013. Aircraft #8 in October 2013. Aircraft #9 in late December 2013. So that should give you an indication of new route announcements.

Ok, but this is an sCO order, so the new routes will be from either LAX, IAH or EWR.

Not necessarily, there's DEN-NRT.

I think UA is not going to wait for the sUA 787-8s to start arriving in 2016 to begin the replacement of their 3 class 763s. UA has two more sCO 787-8s arriving this year and three more next year. Then that's it for the 787-8s until the first of the sUA 787-8s start arriving in 2016. The remaining five sCO 787-8s order due this year and next may be used to retire the five oldest, 1991 models, three class 763s.

If not replacing some three class 763s then I can see the next five 787-8s perhaps taking over some of the following:

IAH-LHR (1 or 2 daily), SEA-NRT, LAX-LHR, IAH-AMS

The 787-9s start arriving in 2015, that's where I think we will see some growth opportunities. The economy, and hopefully UA, will be stronger by then allowing for some new routes. Most likely Asia and Latin America.

Looks like LAN is almost ready to re-start 787 commercial ops on the SCL-EZE route with its first fixed aircraft. 22x weekly planned during familiarization period

The initial routes during this month will be SCL-EZE and/or SCL-LIM.

LAN may receive its fourth 787 (CC-BBD) by late June which will enable LAN to launch daily 787 service on the SCL-MAD-FRA route by 08JUL13. LAN may also receive its fifth 787 (CC-BBE) by late July or early August; however that a/c may eventually be deployed on a route not mentioned.

Thank you for this fantastic thread! With all the frequent updates it is really extremely valuable!

Just one minor detail: the ICAO code for Qatar Airways is "QTR" not "QAT". Not that it lessens the value of your list in the least, I just noticed, in case you want to modify.

Looks like United has added a second inaugural flight tomorrow May 20th. In addition to IAH-ORD, there will be an IAH-EWR flight leaving at about the same time. This was not part of the original plan.

UA 001 IAH-ORD (11:00-13:35)
UA 080 IAH-EWR (11:30-17:00)

Whereas there is a UA 002 return flight from ORD, there no return commercial flight from EWR on May 20th loaded currently on the 787....

IAH-DEN starts on Tue May 21st.

The return flight UA 081 is scheduled for May 21st. So looks like the aircraft will overnight in EWR. Perhaps some internal UA events planned in EWR on 20/21.

N27903 is currently scheduled to fly the UA 001/002 flights to/from ORD
N27901 is currently scheduled for the UA 080/081 flights to/from EWR.

They're celebrating 25 years of the EWR hub, technically Terminal C as CO established the EWR hub in 1986 with the merger of NY Air and PeoplExpress into CO. CO's Terminal C opened on May 21st, 1988. They're hosting a public event at 11:30am tomorrow, as well as a VIP event. The 787 is obviously going to be part of the events.
