I never though I'd say this, but I really enjoyed my flight from Toronto to Vancouver on Air Canada today! I've had a string of crummy flights over the last year or so (Canada 3000, Royal, Virgin and Canadian Regional were all disappointing.. and British Airways did not impress me this summer..). For some reason, Air Canada was just a very refeshing flight! It was an A340, and maybe I'm still reeling from the awful seat pitch on the Royal/C3000 A310 I had to Paris a week ago, but it just seemed to me that these seats were SUPER comfy! The service was fantastic - they just paid attention to the little things - and for me, the reasons for the other carriers being cheaper truly showed. I had to be at Pearson at 4:45 am today (Boy, security's tight there!), and after all that, my 8:15 flight was STILL delayed - they let us board early, and handed out coffee before we took off though.

I have found that pretty much every Air Canada aircraft has a similar level of comfort, with the exception of its CRJs and Regional affiliates. The
767-300 in the fleet have an excellent see pitch and the are comfortable.
Air Canada rules, though I seem to be the only Canadian who holds this view. If there are more Canadians who like Air Canada, I will with draw my statement gladly.

I agree i like Air Canada, and I am a Westerner. They may not be popular, but hey half the time they are my only choice. I have no problems with Air Canada except for the incredablely high prices on some flights. I'd rather fly Westjet and save a ton and eat pretzels. I like Air Canada, but hey, AC340 we'll let you have your glory for a little while longer .
Any news about the discount carrier or the regional?

I have flown on both Air Canada A340 and 763 but I find the the 763 more comfy although the seats are of the old design, it was still comfy and had loads of leg room!

That's why I'm chossing to ride AC's A340-300 to Hong Kong this Christmas instead of their ex-canadi>n's B744......
Also..my sister flew on AC last spring from YVR-LHR-YVR... She told me she was on a A340 on her flight to LHR but when she returned....it was an B767-300ER and she found out that the 763's pitch wasn't as good as the A340's....

I've had the privelage of flying their 762ER and the A333. Almost the same disatnce, both were transatlantic, and I found the A330 to be way more comfortable. There seemed to be more seat pitch, the adjustable headrests in hospitality were a nice surprise, more music stations on the 330, it also has the drop down TV's as opposed to just the main screen. The drop downs weren't the super thin ones either, they had a picture tube. Anyways, these drop down ones made it much easier to watch the movie in broad daylight.
I also believe that Air Canada is the best North American carrier.

Air Canada economy class pitch on A340 are bad!!! It's tight, uncomfortable, bad IFE, and less pitch then B767. I flew Toronto-HK and i was very dissapointed. Business First is the complete opposite.
I think people who say AC A340 are comfy in econ. have never flown it or have never flown any other company.

If you think the A340 seat pitch is bad, try flying on their B762 ER's for 9.5 hours - not pleasant. I just flew both their A330 and A340 and thought their seat comfort and room was amazing. I hope their B744 and B763 are the same as I am flying to London shortly

Aesch, I don't know what you're implying, but I was very impressed. Maybe that's how it seemed to me, but it appeared to have more room than even an Air France A340.
Flying back to Toronto on the 763 tomorrow, so I'll update this post with a comparison.

Air Canada seat pitch in economy is 32" in both the 340 and 762. Service is good. I would agree that it is probably one of the best north american airlines.

Well... as a follow up to this, I was much less impressed with my flight back to Toronto tonight. The 767-300, an ex-Canadian plane, wasn't as comfortable as the A340, the entertainment system was crummy.. didn't wow me as much as the one before. Also - there really is something to be said about a new-looking interior.. especially on a decent lengthed flight. Those little things, like the headset not working, the seat table being kinda broken..
That's before being stuck beside obnoxious rude people, and having crappy turbulence on the descent in, the long delay, and all the other things than you can't blame the airline for
