Currently, it flies 1/wk, but in the summer, just as last year, it was supposed to upgrade to 2/wk. Instead, people from TPA, sadly hear the news that this route will continue all throughout the summer as a 1/wk flight because of the lack of planes. Numbers have shown that tourism to Pinellas County (the tourist beaches) is up greatly from Europe. A part of this likely is having the availability to fly easily from ZRH. This could even do better if it was increased to 2/wk, and the possibility to international flights from Europe to increase. Despite an advertised 98% load factor this summer (wonder how far back that goes?), it will still not go 2/wk. If anyone has the load factors, I would greatly appreciate it, but I have heard since last fall, the load factors have been great. This spring and summer, even better. I wonder what routes are causing this to be a 1/wk flight. Did they make this a route change, or did they reduce the long haul planes? Should they consider reducing frequencies on another route? I am going out on a limb hear, but is this just the beginning of a process of bringing in a new long haul European carrier? The passengers numbers are up at TPA, economy is getting better here, and tourism from Europe has been growing greatly. I read the thread on the announcement of this flight, and it seemed positive, but I took away a few things from it. One member declared it, "dead on arrival." But that is beside the point, the point being, should have TPA tried harder to get a carrier from Europe that will offer more frequency, and a possibility to play a larger role in the future? For a growing Tampa Bay area, this carrier operating 1/wk will not play a large role in the long run, maybe even realizing a decreased role possibly as soon as 5 years from now. Could they land LH by then? Likely more frequency to a larger airport, and region. Delegations at Tampa have tried to entice German manufacturing businesses to consider Tampa as a U.S. option. These were small, but have a chance, and this could be the beginning of an evolution from this charter, one weekly flight, to a mainstream carrier, operating close to daily operations.
I am intrigued to figure out the load factors. But you are correct, most of the year I believe they operate daily, and I believe in like February time, they operate 6/wk. I don't know the exact schedule, rotates between 6/wk and daily on a 777. Edelweiss is the only other European carrier at TPA. Wonder if BA ups there summer schedule with this reduction, and the European tourism to Pinellas? Maybe with 787s arriving in the fleet and more plans in the fleet, they could do year round daily in the upcoming years, or double daily peak seasons.

BA won't be upping their schedule into TPA because of this. They have a double daily LGW-MCO certain days in the summer season. They often substitute a 4 class 777 onto the LGW-Florida routes as they do not have enough 3 class aircraft.
The most popular flight for tourists is the MCO, hence the double rotation offering. TPA is the easier flight to get onto with Staff Travel, even in the school summer holidays in the UK.

A friend of mine works for WK and lives near TPA. Since last fall, he has had a hard time nonreving back and forth. There have been some weeks with loads around 50% but they are few and far between. On some occasions he was stuck in a cabin jumpseat, but most times loads are so bad that he avoids the nonstop all together. Not sure why it isn't increasing as advertised, I'll try to find out.

Edelweiss unfortunately only has 2 long haul planes. An A330-300 (HB-JHQ) and an A330-200 (HB-IQI).
For what I know the 332 is currently booked by a travel agengy for a 'world tour' which reduces all flexibility to an absolute 0 for the remaining 333.
Perhaps it might be and idea to have LX operate the TPA flight as 3x weekly. Downside for this idea is the low density / premium heavy cabins LX is operating on their LH fleet.
In the longer term I expect Edelweiss adding more aircraft to the fleet, but this is just my gut-feeling
