The Times of India has a nice write up on some of our intrepid spotters (Nimish, blraviation) who brave the night to watch a 748 land by the runway lights! While you're at it guys, do keep an eye out for UFOs  http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...pot-light/articleshow/20269351.cms

Well done guys....

It is good to spread knowledge about spotting. It helps bdding spotter to feel more confident about their passion and also helps avoid suspicious people who can mistake you as 'potential' threats..... remember the case of 2 Italian spotters in DEL, who were arrested by Delhi Police after a room service boy saw radio tracking equipment and tripods in their hotel room....

personally I find BLR quite "precise" on controlling passengers departing from there: It starts with the road blocks including the defending-style guard houses when approaching the terminal. controls of passport and ticket at the terminal entrance, controls at the checkin entrance, exiting the country, then, they want you to have a baggage tag at your carry on baggage which they later control at boarding for a stamp which I did not notice they have put on. then, they pulled out an item which airports never pulled out from my carry-on for years ...

... there I would be very careful with spotting! I did some panorama photos of the terminal building (because of the construction area there) and asked some guard if I am allowed to do it.

This is true of most/all Indian airports. Deadly cross-border and domestic terrorism erupts regularly in India and better to err on the side of caution.

True that! However the airport security are quite OK if you're taking pictures with a small P&S or a mobile phone camera. Luckily we (the APIF group) have permission from the BLR airport, and hence can use a platform built for the purpose of photography. (landside, towards the east of the terminal building)

Awesome - look forward to meeting fellow spotters at BLR! Just remember that the rules in India mean about a month's paperwork for you to get an official spotter ID card, however we can spot from a distance in the absence of an ID.

Do you have to be present in India to start the paperwork for a ID card?

No - I don't think so.
