Back in ancient times, Pan American regularly flew the 747 to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. I believe that Eastern and Braniff did too. I vaguely recall seeing United 747's too. When did we (America) stop? And from where in the USA did they depart from? JFK, Miami and ?
Since AA never had more than a few 747's, and for a short time, Delta too, what equipment did they open the market with?
I recall VARIG went way into the 1990's (and were the last 747's I think in general) but then they all just seemed to all go to 3 holes, 767's then 777's.

And LAX. At one point in the early 90's 5 carriers were operating nonstop LAX-GRU (Varig, VASP, UA, JL, KE). I think UA was the first to drop the route. In the October 1996 OAG the other 4 were all still operating.
