STATEMENT ISSUED 17 September 2001:
3000 ANSETT STAFF RETURN TO WORK
Ansett Australia Administrator Mr Peter Hedge from PricewaterhouseCoopers confirmed last night close to 3000 Ansett staff will return to work from today, Monday 17 September, 2001.
Staff returning to work this morning are from areas including engineering, call centres, and travel agencies in the Ansett Australia group.
"After reviewing the financial position of Ansett over the weekend, we have identified certain operations that are viable going concerns, and we must also maintain our aircraft in a ready operational state," Peter Hedge said.
"This is the first step in ensuring the best possible solution for Ansett staff. While we can't guarantee that this is a permanent solution, it is a step in the right direction."
"We recognise that all staff would prefer to work, however the financial reality is that in the short term, we can only reinstate staff in essential and self-funding areas."
Staff who have been stood down are asked to remain on standby and will be advised promptly if they are recalled to duty.
On Friday 14 September 2001, the Australian Industrial Relations Commission varied enterprise agreements covered varied Ansett enterprise agreements by inserting a stand down clause. The order meant 17,000 Ansett group staff were stood down without pay effective from midnight Friday 14 September 2001, unless otherwise advised.

No the service hasn't and there is no current indication that it will resume. The services that will resume are wet leased 737 & A320 (crewed by AN staff) to DJ and QF to add capacity until a buyer is found for Ansett.
The administrators are trying not to break the group up, although unprofitable business will be pared back or sold.

United Airline,
Again...
No one knows. As Skystar has pointed out, the priority is the domestic situation. If AN are flying, as Wirraway has pointed out, it will be wet-lease operations.
Don't expect AN International to fly in the near future.
Man...this is the 50th time you've whether or not SYD-HKG will resume...

Nah......Only fly 10 Airbus this weekend...for a WEEEK only!I guess it will never fly as an independent commercial airline anymore...only if the Aus Government would do something!Don't rely on Air N.Z,they aren't making profit either!
Also the service points would be Sydney,Melbourne,Cairns and Brisbane ONLY!Not International routes!

International routes??? Not for now!
But eventually, if Ansett survives, I think they will start flying into Europe as well as USA. And I do believe that they will resume their International Service. For example: MEL-HKG, SYD-HKG. Comments?
Also, do you guys think their B 744s will fly again? I really hope so. VH-ANA and VH-ANB I mean......
