I tried to search but the search does not work for me.. Still showing only up to 2011... I don't get it..

But, any who.....

Can some enlighten me on the DL RJ at PVD near the US fuel tanks? It's been there every time I go to PVD and I'm wondering what's the deal.

Thanks!

It had a small electrical fire at the gate, and I cant remember if it was from a faulty APU or GPU but all the electrics and avionics were fried. The company made the decision to remove the engines and park the plane, determining it would be less expensive than replacing the electronics. Last I herd, its fate is up in the air, company doesn't have an answer as to what they want to do with it, ARFF wants to take over it as a trainer, airline might part it out, airport doesn't care as long as the rent keeps getting paid on the space. Chances are though that it will never fly again.

Interesting. When was the fire? I haven't been back to PVD in a few months so I guess I'm missing all the action!

There aren't any signs of damage from the outside. I've heard that they might part take the wings off and truck it out.

This was a Comair aircraft and as such is caught up in the bankruptcy proceedings. To my knowledge the ARFF offered to purchase it to use as a training hull, but it did not work. I also don't believe the airport can really touch it for fear that it would be damaged in any way, thereby potentially making the airport liable for it with the creditor(s).

States it was a Pinnacle aircraft. The pictures shows a Pinnacle logo on the nose, too.

Aircraft is owned by Wells Fargo, leased to Delta, operated by Pinnacle.

My mistake ... but a bankruptcy issue nonetheless. Pinnacle just emerged from Chapter 11 on 5-1-2013 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta. I believe the terms of that agreement include a phase-out of 50-seat RJ a/c, so maybe the ARFF will be able to purchase it after all.

The fate of the aircraft is ultimately up to what the insurance company, the owner (Wells Fargo), and the lessor (Delta) want to do with the airframe.
