Everyone was talking about AA not having anymore DC10's. This really isnt true. Arent Hawaiian Airlines DC10's leased from AA? I mean, that would explain the HA DC10's always at the AA maint hangar at LAX and I saw one at SFO at the AA hangar. I know that when HA doesnt want them anymore, AA will dispose of them, but, AA still technically owns them.

Correct! AA just doesn't operate them anymore.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Yep, HA's DC-10 fleet is being returned as we speak, 125AA started the cycle, and by 2003, HA will have all 767s and 717s.

CO is in the same boat with their leased DC-10s to HA. CO won't operate them, but they will own them.

Will HA sell their DC-10s they own is the next question. and to whom?

An interesting aside to all this is HA is probably the only airline who successfully "screwed" AA.

When HA was in difficulty a few years ago, they suspended the lease payments and informed AA they were welcome to repossess their aircraft, but considering their only use to AA was parking them in the desert, HA convinced the owners that getting something for them is better than nothing. I believe the lease payments were renegotiated and are very, very minimal.
