Good news. Will they be refurbished to meet actual TK standards? What is the interior of the ex-QR A332s that joins a few years ago?

Does anybody knows for how long the Jet Air 777W are leased.
I noticed that my next few trips from IST to BKK are changed to the leased 777W with the staggered business class seats.
I'm happy with this as the A343 business class seat is not the best at this moment.

VT-JEN is currently doing LHR/DXB runs back and forth. Last week I was onboard to DXB and can definately confirm the added comfort of the business seats. in fact, I could sleep from take-off until touchdown

congrats for having the best business food. if I'm not mistaken they were first in economy catering for some years. maybe a sign that they have to redesign that concept too, because for more than two years when I fly to Europe I almost every time get the same.

They should be ... I've flown on the GF 332s many times. They are clean, but ancient! The seats or the IFE don't even come close to TK standards. Even their business class products can't match TK's comfort class. I hope they are refurbished, otherwise passengers on some routes will be royally pissed!

Per stock market filings the leases were for 12-14 month periods. So they should run through July-September'ish 2014.

Basically these frames hold TK until the 15 new 77Ws start arriving in 2014.

This may not happen..

Fleet becomes "aşure", and it is very expensive keep the cabin fresh. You cant imagine how expensive is a small plastic part of seat.

And 3rd wet leased 777 is arrived painted; VT-JEP. VT-JEM was painted, still performing incoming inspection. will see which stations get these birds... Nowadays TK birds go ESB and ADB on morning flights, instead sitting on tarmac until they depart to north American bank.

And have heard rumors ORD will be double daily soon

Construction begun on military side of Ataturk airport, some bunkers is demolishing. They are building some cargo area at the end of runway to clear mess on cargo terminal.

Regarding to 3 rd airport construction, there are still some grey clouds. CV of construction still trying to find funds, but I highly doubt they can finish first phase in 2018. TK should really consider A380 order with this delay. Ataturk may not be 380 ready but gates and taxiways may redone and 380 will add required capacity for constant growth.

The 3 ex GF A332s are actually originally MEA A330s with 42J / 208Y configuration with a hopeless business class product where as Y class is just about ok.

They will not be with TK in the current state nor configuration as I read on this website 3 weeks ago that these 3 jets are being refurbished in USA to meet TK's standards and after completion shall be delivered.

great to hear the military areas are finally being integrated into IST use ....

personally, i think it will probably be 2020 before the new airport gets functional ... so new capacity at IST is critical for maintaining TK's explosive growth. The new 333s are starting to come this year (and 77Ws next year) right?

Hello everyone,

I would like to thank LAXintl for starting July thread. I might not contribute often but I enjoy reading the discussions.

There were gossips about TK and LH join venture/partnership/increased connection/etc... Any news on that side? LH was having big troubles a year ago and I can imagine it was more likely to look for radical/new solutions to solve problems. I believe LH started to see the light at the end of the tunnel after the last improvements and decisions taken by the governing bodies. It looks like an agreement between two carriers for an improved cooperation has a lower chance than last year.

Rights to operate six daily flights to Japan is amazing and I would like to see how it will be utilized.

It is great to see all contributing members as usual.

I read the first Turkish Technic manufactured seat has been delivered to TK and is awaiting certification.

Carrier plans to retrofit the new economy seats later this year into 25 B737-800 aircraft.

In addition to TK, they also seek to sell the seats to other airlines, and are developing another version for longhaul travel and eventually a business class seat.

Looking back at the leases in the past (TG 77Ws, QR332s, Meridiana 332s, LX/EZ 320s), none of those frames got the interior to match TK standards but Gulfair frames seem to be leased for 6 years so they may as well be refurbished... They will need this extra capacity on long haul routes as well so it makes sense...

Having recently moved to Washington DC, I am waiting TK to change the AC on IST-IAD to 333 or 77W now... I am currently holding 2 return tickets and hoping for an aircraft change... 343s in Y arent all that bad though...

As you mentioned, leased frames never got before heavy modification for have standard (actually TK 's own fleet has no standard) interior. Keeping cabin fresh is expensive work but making a whole cabin like your own product is completely different story. These planes generally used as feeder planes, for make TK's own long haul birds free for long haul operations.
