BEIJING, Sept 20 (AFP) - Chinese aircraft makers announced
Thursday they planned to make the country's first modern passenger
jet in an effort to grab a stake of the growing global market for

McDonald-Douglas, producing the 150-seat MD-90, was discontinued
after Boeing took over the United States aircraft maker last year.
The ARJ21 project, unveiled at the Aviation Expo/China 2001 in
Beijing, will mainly carry 70 passengers, while another version will
have an extended capacity of 99 seats. Engines, avionics and other
equipment would be procured globally, she said.
Roll-out of the plane is expected in 2005 and deliveries to the
domestic market are expected to begin the following year.

Any news on the Indonesian N2315 jet? it was a 100 seater resembling the A320 but much better looking, that was one beautiful plane, will it come into being? I heard Indonesia were giving China the rights to build those and other Nusantara Industry aircraft

The indonesian plane was scrapped. I believe that the turboprop they were working on wasn't scrapped. BTW that RJ they are talking about, is it known how it wil look. For instance, has there been an artist impression.
Another point with regard to the RJ. When Fokker went banckrupt (here we go again) it was stated that the production may be shifted to China. Two months ago there was a statement that this option was stil considered. Obvious question: has this plane got anything to do with the F70/F100/F130.
I know I posted this question some 3 months ago as wel, and then got the remark this plane was to outdated compared to say the ERJ and the CRJ. In this case this wouldn't be a problem. After all, in a country were until recently the AN-2 was being produced, this plane wil be a huge step forward.
