are there any availiable traffic rights between Australia and Mexico which are not being used?
Does anyone think that services between Australia and Mexico could be successful, are there anough premium travellers?.
I understand Qantas a long time ago used to fly to London via Mexico with 707's it was called "the .......route" does anyone remember what? i know the route via Asia is called the Kangaroo route. The route via mexico had a mexican sounding name?

Qantas did fly to Mexico but I am not sure if it was Mexico City or Acapulco. I have an old Qantas magazine from the 70s and Acapulco is in bold letters but with no route linking it.
I think there is good potential for direct flights between MEX and SYD. A good alternative to getting to the US instead of congested LAX. This is where the A340 will be ideal in building up traffic on long, thin routes.
Perhaps Air New Zealand could fly there. Now that Mexicana is joining Star, Air NZ and Mexicana code share on MEX-LAX-AKL flights. This could perhaps be a fore runner to direct services.

Another interesting post, Sp-deluxe!!! But I think there's not enough traffic from Australia to Mexico to warrant nonstop flights. There are a lot of flights to Los Angeles that have good connections to different cities in Mexico. Maybe one flight from Los Angeles could continue to Mexico City similiar to the flight that continues to JFK. There are usually one or two Qantas planes sitting at LAX for most of the day. The777Man

There is currently no bilateral agreement between Mexican and Oz Governments. In an unusual twist, Oz carriers do have permission from the U.S. to carry traffic from/to Mexico to a point in the U.S., but as there is no agreement with Mexico it's pretty useless at the moment.
The old South Pacific jaunt Qantas did years ago via Mexico was called the "Fiesta Route".

How interesting...didn't know about the 'Fiesta Route'...but when I was in Mexico a few years ago I met a lot of Australian folk who had flown in to Mexico with Malaysia Airlines.
Malaysia Airlines at the time was probably the only carrier to serve Central America from S.E.Asia. The route unfortunately had to be abandoned by MAS (although efforts to code-share with AeroMexico and Mexicana both fell through) due to the US government imposing a maximum capacity regulation on the LAX-MEX sector. MAS flew a 747-400 on the route KUL-TPE-LAX-MEX and with the new regulations - the 747-400s had to operate below half capacity between LAX and MEX...thus rendering the route non-profitable.

I know JAL used to or still does fly tokyo-vancouver-mexico city with connections from Australia. Do they have traffic rights between Canada and Mexico.
What about Honolulu-Mexico, i dont think any operator currently serves this route. This could be a good feeder in from Asia and Australia. Maybe the US would allow an airline to have traffic rights on this route becuase no one currently serves it.

becuase i think all flights to Asia from Madrid are one stop anyhow meaning traveller from OZ to Madrid have to stop a least twice. Can a 747-400 make the distance between Bangkok and Madrid non-stop. I know Thai flies one stop via Rome why?
Would Qantas be able to carry traffic between say Lima and Madrid?

As a Mexican enthusiast I have to say that there will never be traffic between Australia and here. If the only really international airline in Mexico is Aeromexico, and the farthest it gets is France, what makes you think that there are any future plans to fly to Australia. Maybe Qantas does have plans, but it is obvious that it does not fly anymore, for it was not a profitable route.
