Following last months announcement that Japan had agreed to allocate daytime Haneda slots to 7 nations effective IATA Summer 2014 schedule ( Japan Awards 7 Countries Daytime Haneda Slots (by LAXintl Jun 13 2013 in Civil Aviation) ) the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has now informed parties that is has also allocated 7 weekly slots to Indonesia as well.

Garuda since April 2012 has been operating between Denpasar and Haneda using nighttime slot, and its rumored this award will be utilized for a new daytime Jakarta flight.

In summary, the weekly daytime slot awards effective 2014 are:

China - 28
France - 14
Germany - 14
Indonesia - 7
Singapore - 14
Thailand - 7
United Kingdom - 14
Vietnam - 7

Well I knew this was coming eventually. Buddy of mine works for a trading company here, and he or his colleagues fly to Indonesia at least once a week. He said on FB once that the company sent a petition to MLIT a while ago (not sure how long ago though) to bring more daytime slots, because they usually know what day theyre going to Jakarta within 24 hours of the trip.

Business traffic to Jakarta is quite large out of Tokyo, and as I said before in the other thread about NRT, this is a good idea for business travelers out of here who need something quick and at the last minute.

The issue with nighttime slots are the trains. The Monorail stops around 24:00, and the Keikyu line (if it's not delayed for car issues) stops at 23:45, depending on the day. Neither of these services begin again until 04:30 the next day.

I'll be curious if Garuda will be able to mix up 1 daytime and 1 night-time slots. For example,

Arrive HND at 8-9pm using daytime arrival slot. This plane leaves at midnight using nighttime departure slot.
Arrive HND at 6am using nighttime arrival slot. This plane leaves at 10-11am using daytime departure slot.

It will be perfect for the given situation: utilizing 1 daytime slot pair, 1 night-time slot pair. Not only GA but many airlines would want to do this way.

US will get something.

With 140 weekly daytime slots to be made available in 2014 for foreign nations, the above list covers 105.
So there still are 35 available.

I also wonder about Canada as well as AC said they were starting YVR and then terminated the idea. The international terminal at HND in 2011 had a clear map linking HND-YVR although this route was a phanasmal route...

Yes, but that's because Finnair is doing great, not because demand between two nations are huge enough. There was no flight offered by Japanese carrier until this month. I guess more nations are there on the higher priority in terms of passenger O/D demand.

Canada night slots haven't been used at all, and that might be why Canada isn't getting daytime slot this time.

US wasn't confirmed last time either, until the last minute. US wanted to secure "equal opportunity" between Japanese and American carriers and it took many months to negotiate. As a result, all departures to US mainland cannot be done before midnight.

The US has slots already, and while they're all nighttime slots, not many people have complained to MLIT about it

The US airlines (UA and DL) want to focus on using NRT as their hub, and HND as an OandD destination. Someone correct me if Im not correct here but I believe the LAX-HND route is considerably cheaper than LAX-NRT.

Actually.....

Many people travel to Finland to see the Northern lights, or the 24-hour sunshine, as both are seen here as signs of good luck, especially after marriage.

Also many finnish companies have offices here, not to mention the thriving fashion trade.

And since we now have two daily NRT-HEL flights one of them could be moved to HND easily. That would be the JL flight. And since HND has better connections on the domestic routes. As for the Finnish fashion companies Marimekko comes to my mind and some others. And don't forget The Moomin family.

Well we know one country that will not be serving Haneda either day time or nighttime

Japan and Switzerland just agreed on a new air service agreement that does not include Haneda access.

United and Delta may want to have their Tokyo operations at Narita, but why would AA ? AA operates terminator flights to Tokyo and JAL has many flights to Asia from Haneda. What is more ridiculous then the curent schedule AA has from JFK to HND, the HND to JFK schedule.

That is true, which is a problem for that route. Honestly, that route should either be a daytime route, or a route switched to an available daytime slot at NRT, or something operated by JL themselves.

AA ran JFK-NRT for like 10-years.

It dropped NRT in favor on focusing its NYC-Tokyo fully to HND last year.

I suppose Korean/Chinese travel will not be growing near term, so adding medium & long-haul out of HND make sense to some extent. With new slots for both domestic and int'l service, that should take HND well past LHR and LAX into fourth place for yearly passenger numbers, and if ORD stays stagnant it will take over third place.

Singapore - 14

Regarding the recent DL's rant on Haneda access, I wonder if SQ will be able to (and willing to) move NRT-LAX route to HND. It appears Singapore side gets more number of HND slots than the number of NRT slots SQ used to have several years back. If all of the daytime slots go to SQ, then SQ may want to utilize one of 4 HND slots (2 daytime+2 nighttime) for LAX.

Singapore and Japan agreed on unlimited 5th freedom except Tokyo. I'm not sure if it can transfer NRT 5th freedom to HND or not.

well Richard Anderson came out today and said he wants to be all at HND and wants to move back. NRT is not his ideal location.
