In the early 90s BA had a advert, where a 100 + people from all cultures and backgrounds on the ground formed together to form a picture of the world and with music from Yanni in the background, it was a moving image, and one that will remain in my mind forever.

Best: United commercial during the pilot's strike about 2 years ago. It pretty much said that they have made it through in the past, and they will make it through this event also. In between the messages(they were typed) they had pics throughout the years of United aircraft in exotic places and in the air. One scene I remember was probably taken early 80's. It was a UAL 742 landing at some exotic island. During the commercial, they were playing that music they always play.
Isn't that song "moonlight sonata"?
Worst: Any Southwest commercial

Oh yes, I've thought of another one, "Spread your wings with Southern Australia, spread your wings and fly, we try a little harder at Southern Australia, the pride of the Southern sky" - or something to that effect - but I (ed) it!!! ... pity it doesn't exist anymore (now part of QantasLink).. oh well.

The best airline advertisement was one I never saw. In the Wall Street Journal, at least eight years ago there was an article about Aeroflot and the changes it was going to make to become competetive with other international airlines. The ad described in the article was how things had been in the past, and now, how Aeroflot was changing (new airplanes, new service, et al). The picture that was used on TV and newspaper was of an elephant flying overhead and the caption - "Even elephants can fly!" The article in the Journal had a small picture of the elephant aloft. I'm curious to know - did this ad ever become reality? In the US, we rarely see ads for Aeroflot and then only in print. Aeroflot, with or without this ad, seems to have changed for the better.

My favorite airline commercial was that of Fed Ex about 5 years ago. It had an airline pilot riding an elephant out on the flightline. Seconds later the elephant taxied onto the runway, and began its takeoff roll! The it lifted off making a right climbing turn! The pilot look so serious at his job. The takeoff roll was accompanied by the sound of turbofan engines. That was bad-ass!!!

I agree with Zizou...the BA ads from the mid-90s were great...with the 200 people forming a face in the desert. Perhaps the first hint of their later disasterous world images remake.
Also really like the classical music that BA and UA have long used as their unofficial 'anthems'. Any idea what these are called? Composer?
Liked the old AA ads from the 80's...."We're American Airlines, doing what we do best". Laker Airways ads..."Consider yourself one of the family".
Anyone remember Saturday Night Live from the early 80's?? One show they ran a parody ad for a fake US airline with terrible service. The slogan was "at xxx airlines, we make you feel like you never left the ground....because we treat you like dirt". hehehehehe
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

I really liked United's commercials in the early 90's that used "Rhapsody In Blue" over footage of a United plane in flight. Very classy.
Delta's current ad campaign is pretty good as well. I really like the one about BusinessElite International, where the passenger is using his feet to get the inflight magazine out of the seat pocket, during which Delta hypes the space in BuisinessElite.
AirTran's done one that is done up like the celebration in Times Square on V-J Day, including a take on the famous sailor kissing a female in the crowd.
I also liked Valujet's Captain Value ad campaign; it was very humorous and pretty much summed up what Valujet was. On a side note, the voice of Captain Value was the same guy that currently does the voice of Space Ghost (way cool).
And I agree about the BA Space Shuttle ad as well.
Worst, Delta's we love to fly and it shows. It was launched right before the crash @ DFW in 1985, and they had to scrap plans for a billboard near DFW that had the new slogan on it.
Southwest is not very creative in their ads as well. You're not exactly free to move about the country if Southwest doesn't fly anywhere near you.

One of my favorites is the Delta TV commercial where a 767-300 is being towed into a hangar, then, with very inspiring background music and high-speed camera, the aircraft is repainted (with Delta's '96-'97 "new" scheme), and finally there's a great shot of the Boeing being towed out of the hangar.
