Where Does CX Fly Its B747-400s To? How Many Left?

Where does CX fly its B747-400s to? How many left? AMS? YVR? FRA? HND? TPE? Where else?

I am surprised that there is only one daily to LHR left......

15 left in the fleet.

Destinations:

LHR, FRA, JNB, SFO.

PEK, PVG.

KIX, HND, NRT, CTS.

MNL, ICN, TPE, CGK, SIN, DPS.

Frankfurt goes 77W from the 1st of Oct.

Plus some ad hoc destinations due to A/C changes.

Long haul only SFO, LHR and JNB all less than daily. FRA changes to a 77W soon. Other than that within Asia NRT, CTS, TPE, MNL, SIN.

There are various other destinations around Asia that now see a 744 service from time to time. CX are very good at switching aircraft types for the right loads on their regional flights, sometimes this happening a mere few hours before the flight. I have seen the 744s fly to SUB, CGK, PEN in addition to those listed above.

The 744 will stop flying to FRA end of September. There are plans for the 744 SFO flight to switch to a 77W by the end of the year with the remaining LHR flight happening at a similar time, leaving JNB as the only long haul left for the passenger 744.

There are rumours of the company wanting to put a First class service onto one of the SYD flights. This would mean either the 744 or 77W and I have heard rumours about both.

It would be interesting to see what they do there, the 744 product in all classes is older compared to the A330s SYD currently gets, but the 77Ws are needed elsewhere it seems, atleast they have the newer product.

Send the 744s back to AKL, or the 77W.

Pretty sure SYD hasn't seen a CX 744 in years. Maybe you are thinking of Freighters? Which CX sends both 744F and 748F.

I believe the late evening flight on CX from SFO to HKG is still a 747-400. I wouldn't be surprised it is switched to a 777-300ER by the end of 2013.

Also I believe more will be leaving the fleet before the end of the year, possibly down to 12 or even 9.

Per cathaypacific.com, starting on 02JAN14 both CX870 HKG-SFO and CX879 SFO-HKG will operate with the 77W 4x weekly and the 747-400 3x weekly.

I think there is another due for retirement at the end of this year. There's another six 777-300ERs being delivered in the remainder of this year which will add to fleet numbers and allow for more 744s to be taken off certain flights.

I can't blame them. They can probably save 20% on their fuel bill on those routes plus some additional savings on maintenance and eliminating an AC type. Its unfortunate they did not pick up 748i's but its not a big surprise to me. They probably would only need it for very few routes.

- AMS, CDG, FRA, LHR, MAN, MXP,
- ANC, ATL, DFW, JFK, LAX, MIA, ORD, SFO, YVR, YYZ,
- BOM, BLR, CGK, CGO, CKG, CTU, DEL, DXB, ICN, MAA, NRT, KIX, PVG, SGN, SIN, TPE, XMN,

Only one of CX's YVR flights continues to JFK. The other turns around at YVR. Both are 77Ws.

There are occasionally subs or scheduled equipment changes on HKG-NGO as well. We usually see 333, 343, and 773 service here, but the 744 turns up now and again. Can anyone with more CX knowledge shed light on when this is likely to happen?

Yep. I have a 333 on schedule for CEB-HKG next month. I have seen 773 & 772 scheduled too. If they change it I want a 772...preferably 777 cn 1..
