Even though Boeing claims the program is on track, they have decided to make a shake-up in the organisation of the dreamliner-program:

Something had to change for the sake of the program.

Just when I think you've said the stupidest thing ever, you keep talkin'!

I'd look at it another way -- how many punches can a VP take. Mike Sinnett needed a break. The program is what the program is. There was no miracle cure when Sinnett was given the job and I imagine Whittington will have his fair share of headaches. Having seen Mike's presentations on both the ZA002 and battery issues I think Bob will have some big shoes to fill when he gets stuck on the hot seat.

Is there an address available for condolence cards?

I can't imagine this will be a pleasant job to take.

It's almost like the last stop on the way to Hell or something. Maybe he sees it as a challenge, though? lol

Well, it has been a stressful time for the program. MTBF challenges remain, lots of AOG due to spare parts it seems. Lots of work for a program with an over 800 unit backlog.

I agree with this. I can't imagine Sinnett has had much time off for a while. Sinnett himself was a middle relief pitcher that worked himself out of a big jam with men on base (battery issue, United). Now it's t time for (fingers crossed) the closer.

It's true. The program isn't out of the woods yet, but we can hope that the big scares are behind us. The fundamental issues of engineering particular to the 787 are mostly resolved (we hope). As the 78J takes shape and the 789 begins its production I hope that most of his job focuses on developing new solutions and not fixing problems that should have not happened.
