I live by the Potomac River just a mile from Washington, DC. During the last
several days(since the skies re-opened),
there have been a lot of low-level air
traffic from 1AM to 4AM... probably 2000 to 3000 feet high...
For example, last night I counted more than 24 planes flying overhead. Almost one every 5 to 10 minutes. They are
very noisy and appear to be commercial airliners.
Does anyone know what's going on?
It's driving my dogs(and neighbor's)
crazy at night...

Well, you can tell they're not going to DCA. Also, no schedule airline flights in or out of IAD at those hours. Possibly charter going into IAD or BWI. Another possible reason are military jets (not the fighters) inbound or outbound of Andrews AFB.
The F16s here in DC patrol the skies 24 hours. I hear them every 10 minutes when I sleep.

One mile from DC at 3000 to 4000 AGL are most certainly not civil aircraft. You are hearing and seeing the military patrols. Get used to it. They're most likely a permanent fixture.
What is it with all the "is there a possibilty airline X will.." threads? The answer it'll is possible.
