I walked by the UA gates at SFO on Saturday and they were in an oversold situation asking for volunteers for their HNL flight.

Just fueled a United 757 today. Total load for the Maui to LA flight..........6 passengers! YIKES! Flights coming in to Maui have been around 50-75% capacity. Hope things pick up.

Based upon the "e-fare" web specials to Hawaii that United has regularly offered since July (when I subscribed) I would surmise that they have had plenty of empty seats to sell to the Aloha state. Given the unsettled state of the U.S. economy, I would guess that the high cost of Hawaii has many vacationers seeking sun n' surf looking to more affordable destinations like Mexico at this point in time.

HNL is always packed whether its for tourism or for business. Also, it is a quick 3-day weekend getaway for people on the west coast.

Loads? What loads? Under any other circumstance, this would be an NRSA's dream...
I barely got on the plane to and from HNL on September 9th/10th. If I were to standby now, I'd get F-class without a problem.
It's not usual for non-revs to hope for heavy loads, but I must admit I'd love to see some overbooked flights right about now for the sake of my company...
I love America. I guess that makes me Bush's poodle, but I'd rather be a dog in New York City than a prince in Riyadh.

Hotels in in HNL are running 20% capacity with the lowest I heard was 4%.
US flights are not doing too bad, it's JAL and ANA flights that are getting load factors in the 5% range for a 747.
