Reports on local BBC radio suggest that Manx Airlines aircraft have been grounded as the recent insurance cover granted to other British airlines does not extend to the Isle of Man and Channel Islands.

They are allegedly using British Regional aircraft on some routes.

Anyone know if Aurigny are grounded as well?

No, that's British Regional Airlines (formerly Manx Airlines Europe). The Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are actually not part of the United Kingdom (though, confusingly, they are part of the British Isles) Big grin In the Isle of Man, legislation is enacted by the House of Keys, and Manx Airlines and/or the House of Keys seems to have overlooked that problem. I suspect that it will just be a technicality though and they will be operational again shortly. I suspect that the States Assembly (the Channel Islands parliament) did not overlook the issue; which is why Aurigny is flying.

Manx branched out in 1994 into having the Isle of Man flights operated by Manx Airlines, with their other schedules by Manx Airlines (Europe). Manx Airlines (Europe) became British Regional and they will integrate with Brymon to form BACE (main base: MAN)

Just had a thought. Aren't the Aurigny Sf340s leased from bmi regional/british midland commuter and hence can fly? What about the trislanders?

No, the Saab's arent leased from BMI Commuter (they're leased from SAAB). Anyway, the airline has to pay the insurance and not the leasing company (they demand that you insure their planes).

David it's not an issue of who the aircraft belong to (unless they are on an ACMI (wet) lease or full charter, where the owner insures them and operates them effectively on their AOC) but it is rather the insurance of the operator (ie Manx or Aurigny) that's the issue.
