Kenya Airways First B777-300ER

The first B777-300ER for Kenya Airways emerged from the final assembly line in Everett. Delivery of the 2-class 397-seater (28 J, 369 Y) is scheduled for mid-October while first revenue service Nairobi - Guangzhou should start from November 19, 3 times a week. Plans to operate the aircraft to Amsterdam and London have been abandoned.

KQ883 CAN2140 - 0410+1NBO 77W 246

I'm not sure which line number this is.

Good to see KQ modernizing its fleet.
Any chances that we see KQ starting routes to the Americas?

Their 767s need a urgent refurbishment. When last I saw the bird, it literally had some cables running under J class floor mats and it was clearly visible. It was later "stacked" under the mat by the cabin crew.

Anyways, the 77W proved to be a very successful aircraft. Congrats to KQ and Boeing!

I have seen it before on the BA 77W but I'm not sure why some rudders are not yet fully painted.

Loads of cargo on this route. Kenya's usual export commodities outbound and of course the Kenyan business traffic importing various products inbound. 77W useful for payload. It is useful to note that Thailand is also an important route for KQ. The addon is either BKK-CAN & BKK-HKG. It helps with crew costs too. Ovenighting them in BKK for a double-banger the next day.

Decals are now used for most disigns on tails and winglets and they can be applied after the rudder is balanced. I don't know all the details but I know that is why you see airplanes coming out of the factory without full rudder disigns.

At the moment it is smaller, however there is a lot of trade between West Africa (Nigeria particularly) and China. It is quicker to China I believe via East Africa from Lagos, than through the Middle East. This is one of Ethiopian's key money makers as emphasised by them being the first international airline in the South East of Nigeria (traders and industrialist central).

Add to this that the Chinese is investing heavily in Africa @ the moment, so there is likely going to be very strong transfer traffic from the continent to China; the 2 East African carriers are best positioned to funnel this Traffic.

There is a lot of Chinese investment in Africa. Moreover, in exchange of investment Chinese building companies get a lot of contracts to build infrastructure in Africa (e.g. airports).

Finally, there are not many options

If any of you have recently travelled on an intra-African flight either to NBO or ADD, you'd notice the very heavy presence of Chinamen on most flights and at both hubs. But, given the investment, particularly in terms of infrastructure, that Beijing has made in the continent, it isn't that surprising.

28 Business and 369 economy, that sounds 2-3-2 in business and 3-3-3 in economy to me, otherwise they can fit up to 420 economy seats in 3-4-3 configuration, like Air france for example in CIO or EK in the 2-class B77W has 42 Business and 385 economy (3-4-3)

I think going for less seat arrangement will help them to uplift the extra bagagge that many of those pax will carry going to Africa, that´s a very good business for KQ in CAN and BKK specially.

IMO, right now KQ is real need for some new B787 to upgrade flights like DEL from B737 to B767 or B787 and also places like CDG, BKK or maybe some new destination like the GRU (that has been rumored for a while), or start flying maybe to PEK for example.

I think that has been the strategy for the many years now, but i´m not sure if they will are doing a good job with this, ET, QR, EK,TK are really pushing forward and I see KQ going down and not up, even NBO airport before the fire was so tiny for and old, they should have started building a whole new terminal and a new runway years ago.

All KQ planes have a registration starting with "5Y-K" hence it might be 5Y-KFA

Yeah to an extent I agree, but I still enjoyed my MS flight with that configuration, and I got it for a song. That wouldn't happen if they were 2-2-2 I'm sure.

There are still families/groups who travel in J, so ultimately they still choose those seats. With the advent of seat selection the only ones who will get the middle seats who really don't want them are the upgrades.

I don´t think so. It has potential though for very high yield tourism but I doubt that would justify an entire airplane.
