BA Livery News Part 3 (by skipness1E Mar 9 2013 in Civil Aviation) Archived (!)

Just to bump things up, add two more with G-ZBJC having been delivered and G-STBG due. G-STBG will be the first B77W with the crest.

Yes I was inspecting it at ARN last night, commenting on how well it had been painted. All sharp edges and no overflow.

Good news to hear G-EUOE is back in the air and due back in service shortly. Crazy to think almost 4 months ago.

As for Liveries isn't G-EUYP due for delivery in the next few weeks, surely must be painted in new livery?

G-EUUY was ferried to MAD on 8 September. Before that G-EUXG on 7 August and G-EUUS on 19 August were also ferried to MAD. Both returned to LHR after nine and thirteen days in ~Union Flag Crest livery. So G-EUUY . . .

Yes. First flight and ferried TLS-XFW on 13 September in full Union Flag Crest livery:

Yes, why has BA opted not to take new ceoA320s with sharklets like most other carriers have done recently?

'UN is the likely candidate to be # 79. 77W G-STBH was reportedly towed from the FAL to the Paint Shop at PAE on 11 September so might already be in the Crest livery. Either way it is "favourite" to be # 78.

Incidentally G-EUPY is the fifth BA 320 to carry the test registration "F-WWIC". The other four were:

G-BUSJ (from 13 June to 6 August 1990)
G-EUUY (from 19 August to 19 September 2008)
G-EUYF (from 5 to 28 January 2010)
G-EUY1 (from 14 May to 3 June 2010

I do not think so.

G-EUPY carried the test registration D-AVYK. G-EUUY did carry the test registration F-WWIC. The Airfleets web site confirms this:

http://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-a320-3607.htm

http://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-a319-1466.htm

However for "G-EUY1" please read "G-EUYI"!

Well spotted!

I have had a close look at BA 320s in the photo database, specifically G-EUAA to 'UK, G-EUYI to 'YP and G-MIDO, 'DS, 'DT and 'DX.

All of the above excepting the four ex-BD aircraft originally had the light and dark shading on their tail cones from the day they were delivered but now have un-shaded cones. This applies not just to those that now carry the Crest but to those that were repainted earlier like G-EUUE and G-EUUI (repainted without the shading in the first week of July 2010 and in May or June 2010 respectively) and also G-EUUD (repainted in the second week of June this year but without the Crest). The four ex-BD aircraft (first painted in BA livery in August, October and November 2012) have never had the shading on their tail cones.

So it is looking as if while Airbus paint the shading on the tail cone BA (and IB) do not when they repaint 320s.

On a different tack I note that 320 G-EUUK now has a Red Nose cone as well as the Crest. The earliest report I can find of this is on 1 October at DUS.

A good guess might be that IB had spare capacity in their Paint Shop as they delayed repainting their own aircraft prior to the launch of their new livery on 15 October. Now that launch has happened it is probably catch-up time with those aircraft that had their repaint postponed almost queuing up outside the MAD paint shop. So I would not expect to see any BA aircraft going to MAD to be painted for some time.

If right this helped BA as IB had spare capacity while the BA Paint Shop was closed and they were preparing for the launch. But that is no longer the case.

Here is an update to the latter end of the full listing of BA Crest aircraft:

Has anyone seen or, better still, photographed this year's twenty-seventh 'Dreamflight' aircraft, G-BNLZ, that is currently parked at MCO awaiting tomorrow's (Sunday 27 October) return 'Dreamflight'.

For many years each 'Dreamflight' had large and small caps multicolour 'Dreamflight' titles as on G-BNLM here:

except for special anniversary years when the appropriate birthday was added as here:

However for some reason in 2004 all-maroon lettering was used:

But the twenty-fifth anniversary "Dreamflight" aircraft did not have multi-colour titles and used upper and lower case:

It was followed last year by G-BNLG wearing multicolour lower case 'dreamflight' titles:

So the question is: 'What titling is 'LZ currently wearing?'

G-BNLZ has multicolour lowercase 'dreamflight' titles as G-BNLG had last year - see my previous post.

There is a problem here. I have no idea when and where the BA CityFlyer E-Jets are having the Crest applied. So my dates are the first reports either made by a-netters such as yourself or indirectly through photos published on the Internet. In the case of such photos they may be published within days of having been taken. Or there may be an interval of weeks or months. So if a not too recently taken photo shows an E-Jet has carried the Crest for longer than an E-Jet already on my list then the already recorded E-Jet gets a numerical demotion.

Here is an updated list of the latest Crest carrying aircraft and their in-service or (for new aircraft) roll-out dates:

A couple of questions here, and I apologize if this was all mentioned before..

1.) Can anyone post a picture of the difference(s) between "Pure White" and the "white" that BA used previously.

2.) Why do people reference this as the "new livery"? Isn't it just a small revision?

3.) Why does BA choose to apply the "crest" on newly painted planes? Couldn't they transform a good chunk of the fleet overnight at LHR?

Again I apologize if all of this has been asked and answered before, its been a long time since I've followed BA..

I guess it is lower cost to only apply the Crest when an aircraft is being repainted rather than to have two visits to the paint hangar or have a load of stickers printed and applied to aircraft not requiring painting.

Note that there are three differences in the livery before and after being repainted:

1. The Heraldic Crest is applied
2. The aircraft are painted white rather than what BA once described as "pearl white"
3. The dark and light shading on the tail is no longer extended down onto the (red) tail cone.

Here is the updated listing of aircraft painted with the Crest:

Additionally 320 G-EUUK already repainted with the Crest is now additionally wearing a red nose but not the "Flying Start" sticker:

The red nose cone was fitted sometime between 29 September and 12 October.

4 more are expected to be painted in the coming weeks. G-EUXD followed by G-EUXI, G-EUXH & G-EUXE. It will then be 8 G-EUP* A319s and then 777 G-YMMA.

Thanks for info Tcx69k, how comes you know the repaint schedule? Are any of the G-EUP* doves due to be repainted?

Quoting VV701 (Reply 67):

1. The Heraldic Crest is applied
2. The aircraft are painted white rather than what BA once described as "pearl white"
3. The dark and light shading on the tail is no longer extended down onto the (red) tail cone.

Do you know how many are now painted new bright white and with shadeless red tail cones?

The brilliant white resprays I have seen are G-EUUN / P / S / U / V / Y which I have seen in good light

That is interesting. It is also a listing of all the 320s painted by IB in the last 12 months. It excludes the two 763s recently painted by KL and all the recent newly delivered aircraft namely two 320s ('YP and 'YR), three 380s ('EA, 'EB and 'EC), four 787s ('JA, 'JB, 'JC and 'JD and two 77Ws ('BG and 'BH). This might be a coincidence. But let's keep an eye on it. Perhaps 321 'XD holds the answer. Is it "pearl" white or pure white?

Sorry to be clear, the new A320s, A380s and the B788s are pure brilliant white. I have yet to see the new B77Ws in enough sunlight to make a call. It's incredibly obvious sometimes when you see an A320 shining amongst it's brethren at the holding point.

Thanks for the clarification. If I had fully taken in earlier posts in this thread I would not have careered off down the wrong path.
