Delta Pulling Back NYC-RSW This Winter?

Delta is usually stronger in Ft Myers during the winter than the summer, yet this winter it seems that they are pulling back NYC (JFK/LGA) to RSW flights pretty drastically.

I was looking at JFK-RSW and it appears that the direct is not returning this season, which seems strange to me because every time I flew that route last year it was full, and the tickets weren't cheap, so yields wouldn't obviously appear to be a problem. I then looked at LGA-RSW, which last year saw four daily flights, all on E-170/175 equipment, and there are only two flights per day, both E-175s.

Is Delta really cutting this much capacity from New York to Ft Myers for this winter or have the schedules jsut not been loaded fully yet (it would be pretty late for that to happen)?

Any insight is greatly appreciated!!

This is a B6 market with several a day to JFK and daily to RSW and HPN.

DL has been cutting quite a bit at JFK too.

But even B6 is down to two dailes. They used to be a 4-5x daily.

Is it possible the Allegiant ISP-PGD service might be having an impact on the market?

In December

I don't think two weekly MD-80s could force two E-175s and two a320 each day to be pulled back.

Thanks! At least the B6 flights are still at a decent frequency.

In January after the middle of the month I am seeing Delta with 4 daily E175 non stops from LGA to RSW.

Around the same time am seeing Delta with 8 or 9 daily non stop MD88, 738 or A320 from LGA and JFK to FLL.

Out of curiosity I looked and starting in mid Jan from MSP to RSW, Delta is operating 4 daily non stops: 2xMD90, 1 x 757 and 1 x 763 daily (!).

And am only seeing 2 daily n/s MSP-FLL (1x320 and 1xMD88).

It really shows how people from the Midwest flock to the west coast of Florida and people from the North East flock to the East Coast of Florida during the winter months.

Strange, as I was looking for the end of January. Must've looked on non-peak days? Good to see that I can get into FLL easily though!

Last winter DL was flying 757-300s into RSW from ATL, DTW, and MSP!! So I'm not entirely surprised to see a 763 this season. Either way, it's definitely a great thing for travelers.

There is probably a possibility that they havn't loaded it yet i guess?

Maybe an E170 wasn't low enough per seat cost on this route espeically with Deltas configuration? Its a decent amount of time to tie up the plane and fares are pretty low even in F because of so much competition. Its really a competative route especially with connections and fares are pretty low for the distance and amount of time it ties up the plane.

Could be. DL seems to be ramping up service from RSW to their other hubs so I guess the figure that they can route passengers through ATL if the want to go to RSW from NYC.
