I was on the RJ AMM-LHR flight yesterday (Friday) and to be honest I did not see that we had avoided over flying Isreal. If my memory serves me correctly (it had been a long week!) we pretty much flew a straight route and I didnt notice anything out of the ordinary. We actually landed 20 mins early which was a pleasent surprise!

It is normal that RJ flights to the EU and specifically to/from airports that meet with Israeli security requirements do transit over TLV however today not so . Clearly Israeli airspace has been closed for transit.
Thinking about I expect this may be for the Yom Kippur holiday today.
There are no scheduled flights into/out of Tel Aviv today before sundown either !
Civilian aerial traffic in Israel will cease at 1 pm Wednesday ahead of the Yom Kippur holiday. Ben-Gurion Airport will reopen on Thursday evening at 9:30 for arrivals, while departures will begin at 10:30 pm."

It's because of Yom Kippur. I work for USAirways and we Deadheaded from on the 14th EWR-TLV at 5 am on UA to get repositioned to work US flt 797 TLV -PHL on the 15 because we did not operate US flt 796 PHL-TLV on the 12.
