Since the primary design of the 717 is for short (300nm) hops and high frequency, it is doubtful that it will be used to service longer routes. The max range in basic config. is only 1580 miles. Hope that helps.

Nope, don't hold your breath, Matt. Serving the west is not really AirTran's goal. They have one main hub in ATL and can serve the entire east from there. if they start expanding they would need another hub, longer range planes (like 737's like SW has), more planes, personnel, etc and it all costs $$$. This way they can keep costs down. PLus, the northeast, and east, from BOS to ORD to ATL to MIA and everywhere in between is a very profitable (full seats) set of routes.
